Lily (Present)

"Whatever. Be home before midnight!" My aunt yells to me on the way out.

"Yeah I know!" I yell back to her from across our small house on the cut knowing it really doesn't matter, she'll be out hooking up with an old man by the time I get back anyway. It's the only reason we are able to get by. All her sugar daddies.

I grab my old cracked phone, dart out the door, and hop on my bike and start riding to the boneyard. The wind flowing through my hair reminds me of my old life in New York, when we were wealthy, when me and my mother would run through the cold air on snowy nights. Not that I mind though. About the wealthy thing.

I just miss some of the luxuriates you know? But I think you'd be crazy not to after having a foot in both worlds.

I continue my ride to the beach humming the song Wonderland by Taylor Swift.

On my way I pass by many adults or elders who all give me glares. It's probably because I am in a crop top and light blue denim shorts but I really can't bring myself to give a fuck.

After ten minutes I make it to the boneyard and go to my usual log I sit on but there is someone on it.

"Um excuse me?" I question not wanting to step where I'm not wanted by spying on them.

The blonde haired person- boy is smoking a joint and right as he turns around, he blows the smoke out of his mouth. Just my type.

He's blonde, bright blue eyes, pretty damn muscular, gorgeous and fucking cute.

All in one. It's like a damn surprise package. He keeps getting better.

I think I was staring for quite a bit because he starts waving his hand in front of my face.

"Hello? Are you high?" He continues waving his hand.

"Sadly not. What are you doing on my log?" I ask him with a bit more sass laced in my tone than intended.

He scoffs, "Your log? Last time I checked there isn't a name on it."

"Well clearly you didn't check close enough," I smirk at him and walk around it to point at my name engraved in it.

He follows my line of sight and when he sees my name, his smirk falls off his face and is replaced by a look of annoyance.

"You know what I mean."

"Not really. Maybe you can explain it to me while I steal your joint?" I question really wanting the familiar puff of smoke back in my mouth.

He looks hesitant at first but I guess he realizes there would be no harm in sharing so he scoots over to make room for me.

"Thanks," I say taking the joint from in between his fingers, "So why are you out here tonight? I come here every night and you're never here."

"Just wanted to get out of the house," He tells me before taking the joint back, "If what you say is true, why do you come here every night?"

"Exact same reason." Not really. I don't want to be there when my aunts drunk after a night out. She tends to get... violent. I don't tell him that obviously. I don't want to burden him with something he wouldn't understand.

"So you know my name's Lily because of the log, but I don't know yours?" I question him.

"JJ. JJ Maybank."

The rest of the night is filled with silence. It isn't uncomfortable though. It is more of a silence like we both need to be with someone but we don't want to talk. It's perfect.

I don't know how I feel about this... I promise it will get better though. And longer. I just find it hard to introduce the characters.
