Alternative Title: Your Beauty Never Ever Scared Me

Yūji sits at the end of Megumi's bed, clutching at his ribs. He looks back to make sure the bedroom door is locked. Megumi said he would have complete privacy, with the blinds shut and the door locked but it's Yūji's nature to be sceptical.

"Fuck," he mutters as he observes his ribs. They're blue, borderline purple, and give a dull ache every time he breathes. A soft knock sounds on the door and Megumi's voice comes through. "Yūji? Are you okay?" He asks and Yūji searches the room thoroughly for his binder.

He can't let Megumi see him like this. Dysphoria would sting in his gut, mixed with guilt. The worst part is Yūji wouldn't know what Megumi would say. Would they love him regardless? Or would a preference rule Yūji out for their continued dating?

"Yeah, I'm fine!" Yūji says back, a little breathless. Where the fuck did that thing go? "Are you sure? Do you want me to come in?" They prompt and Yūji almost bursts to tears in stress and fear. "No! I mean- I'll be fine!"

Yūji scratches at his chest, stressed over the missing piece of fabric. He's stuck in Megumi's room with the pressure of him having a key to unlock the door and the missing binder making him Itadori Yūji.

He remembered when he was younger, when people would call him his deadname. "Come on, Hanii," a vague voice speaks in his head. The voice belonged to a guy, one of the workers at the foster care system that used to have Yūji. He doesn't remember anything of the man, only his voice.

It tormented him for many years. If Yūji showed slight interest in something deemed masculine by society, he would growl at the child, telling him that "she's a girl, that's for boys."

"Yūji? Please, can I come in? I want to help you," Megumi sounds desperate and Yūji curls into a ball.

"All you do is harm people, Hanii," he hears in his head. "You push away people. It's only a matter of time before you lose Megumi. Then your brother. It's like the domino effect, ending with Hiromi."

The door opens and Megumi shuts it immediately. They kneel beside Yūji and pat his shoulders. "It's okay, Yūji," they reassure but nothing can help. "No," a sob falls out of Yūji's mouth and Megumi just hushes him, stroking his hair. "Did you lose your binder? I'll find it," Megumi says and Yūji continuously nods.

They search around and find it. They cup Yūji's face, pull it up and kiss him. They hand over the binder and Yūji sobs again. "I love you, Yūji," Megumi says and leaves the room.

Yūji pulls it over his head, jumping to try to fit in it, and runs his hands down on his flat chest.

He lets out a sigh of relief as he does so and cleans his face. Megumi loves him. Even after seeing him sobbing on the floor, emotions tearing him in half, they love him.

He walks out of the room, without his hoodie, and falls into Megumi, who's leaning against the doorframe. "Hey," is all they say and Yūji kisses him. "I'm sorry for keeping... this a secret," Yūji says and Megumi frowns.

"No. I should apologise. You weren't ready to come out and I promised you privacy," Megumi says and Yūji frowns. "I'm sorry," is all they say and Yūji sighs. "I'm glad you know," Yūji says and Megumi looks into his eyes. Guilt is transparent through them and Yūji closes his eyes to kiss them again.

"When I was in middle school, I was outed as Trans. The people would still call me... my deadname and use wordplay on my name," Yūji recalls. "It was horrible, I had to move from Sendai to Shinjuku. I met Nobara, who knows already, and she was the first person to know and accept me.

"I'm glad you know. I trust you, Gumi."
