LUCIA POV:

*ring!!*

...

*ring!!*

...

*ringgg!!*

"MAMI!" I called.

"WHAT IS IT LUCIA?"

"YOU'RE PHONE IS RINGING DOWN HERE."

"OKAY IM COMING."

I turned my head to see my mom come down the stairs and grab her phone off the kitchen counter.

"Hello?" she said.

I couldn't hear what was said on the other end of the line, but my mom expressions helped to understand what was going on a bit.

As the person droned on about whatever is was that they were saying, you could tell Mami was tired of what was being said. Finally, she spoke again, ending the call.

"Okay thank you for letting me know, my eldest daughter and I will be there shortly."

Wait I'm involved?

She put her phone down with a. sigh and faced me.

"What was that about?" I asked.

"Luz got in trouble at school again I guess, and now we have to go to the main office to speak with the staff and the people involved."

"Wait why do I have to go?"

"Because I said so."

"...Okay that's fair."

Once we got to the school, we headed straight to the main office. The secretary, already knowing us, just pointed to the principal's office door.

We entered the office and the first thing I see is Luz, the nervous green haired girl from this morning, AND AMELIA?

Wait. Green haired nervous girl is here and Amelia dropped her off today. Obviously Amelia's going to be the one called too. Where's her parents though?

"Hello, Ms. Noceda and...Lucia," Principal Hal began.

"What's up principal Hal, how's it been without me?"

"Better."

"Ouch, negative."

"Anyway, I called you all here to discuss an issue that happened with Luz and Amity."

So Amity is her name, got it.

"Today, Luz and Amity were caught going through their Math teachers desk drawers in search for a confiscated item."

Amelia's eyes widened and looked over to her younger sister.

And then Luz interrupted.

"It was for good reason, you're making it sound like we were trying to rob her or something!"

"Miss Noceda, I advise you not to interrupt me again if you want to get off easy." stated Principal Hal.

"Whatever..." Luz mumbled, slumping in her chair.

"Now, we expect our students to show respect to their teachers at all times," Hal started up again, "And going through desk drawers to steal something back very much isn't within lines of that expectation. So Luz and Amity will be having after school detention for a week straight, and will have to write an apology letter to their math teacher along with that."

"Are you for real?" Luz blurted out, catching everyone's attention, "Mrs. Haver had no good reason to take what we were trying to get back from Amity. I'm not going to apologize to her when what she did was wrong!"

"Luz." Began Camila, only to be ignored by the 14 year old.

"You can give me detention but no way I'm apologizing to her."

"Luz," I spoke, "Just out of curiosity, what did Mrs. Haver take from Amity?

"Yeah Amity, what'd she confiscate from you?" Amelia piped up, laying a comforting hand on her younger sisters shoulder.

Amity looked down, fiddling nervously with her hands as she spoke.

"Um, she- she took my glucose meter from my bag." The girl finally sputtered out.

Amelia's eyebrows furrowed, visibility annoyance in her expression.

"What?" She replied, with edge to her voice.

"I was, I was looking through the pouch of my bag for a pencil as she was walking by and she saw it and insisted that it was some sort of game, and when I tried to explain she said that she didn't believe me. So she took it and put it in her drawer, saying that I could get it back tomorrow morning."

My mouth hung open, I was appalled by the audacity of that woman. I could see the tears rimming Amity's eyes.

"Luz noticed the situation, a-and believed me when I said it wasn't a game but something I needed. So we came up with the idea to get it back by snatching it out of her desk while she was away... at lunch."

"And then she came back, saw us, and now we're here." Luz finished off for her, arms crossed over her chest.

Everything was silent, nobody spoke.

Until Amelia did.

"They're actually getting in trouble for this?!"

Principal Hal looked surprised by her sudden outburst.

"Well, yes, they went through their teachers desk—"

Amelia cut him off.

"Because she confiscated a very important item from my sister, and wouldn't listen to her when she tried to explain!" She pointed out, each word laced with clear disgust.

"Well- she did think it was an electronic-"

This dude is seriously fucking up right now.

"Oh well you know what," Amelia began, "I don't know if you've noticed, BUT I DON'T CARE WHAT SHE THINKS IT WAS. I DON'T CARE IF YOU THINK WHAT LUZ AND AMITY DID WAS WRONG."

"Miss Blight, calm down—"

He's really not getting the hint to shut up, is he?

"NO." Amelia stated, "I will NOT calm down, just like how my little sister WILL NOT be attending detention, nor writing an apology letter to Mrs. Hag or whatever her name was. End of discussion."

"I agree," Mami said, "Luz will not be doing either of those things either. You need to teach your staff to be more educated on students needs. And if anything, I'm proud of what my daughter and Amity did."

She stared Principal Hal dead in the eyes, and you could see him shrink under her gaze.

"Come on Mija we're leaving."

"Us too Amity, let's go."

We went walked out and I'm not gonna lie, what my sister and and her friend did was probably one of the coolest thing I've ever known her to do.
