Chapter 3

Friend

One morning, while doing my normal routine with Tina, I noticed that the maids were in quite a turmoil. I asked Tina about it and she said that a noble friend of Luke was suddenly coming to the manor. I was surprised that Luke has friends, but then I remembered reading an article in my previous life about no one being truly alone in life. It was true in a way because even the loneliest person still talked to someone in their life. Whether it's by some relative or by themselves.

Tina and I grabbed our supplies and started to head down to the library to start our daily pain. As we were walking around a corner, a maid suddenly came out of nowhere and collided with Tina. Bedsheets and blankets that the maid was carrying fell to the floor.

"Are you two alright?" I asked.

The two of them were unable to answer for a couple of seconds. Which was to be expected since they hit the floor quite hard. I was going to help them but I was distracted by Tina's panties. I didn't know where to look so I decided to burn its image to my eyes and then looked away like a good and honest boy. I made sure to add it to my core memories.

Tina immediately got up and looked at me flustered. Her hands held down her skirt like a high school girl who just flashed their panties.

Did she see me? Was I too slow? No... It can't be. I made sure to only look for a couple of milliseconds. And even if I was caught, I could easily use my adorable face to manipulate them. So, everything will work out just fine if I play my cards right.

The other maid started waving her hands on the floor. I was confused about what she was doing so I thought she might have hit her head hard. Only moments later would Tina prove me wrong by giving her her glasses.

"I'm ve...very so..sorry for not se...seeing you." The maid said, fumbling with her words. She lowered her head to Tina and apologized quite sincerely.

"No no, it's fine, it happens to me as well from time to time," Tina replied, trying to reassure the other maid. She's not wrong about what she said. Tina is quite clumsy. If I was some cranky old bald noble, I probably would've fired her immediately.

"I don't think we've met. Are you new here?" Tina asked while picking and folding the bed sheets that were on the floor. As for me, I started to pick up some of the blankets that were on the floor and then gave them to Tina. I was expecting her to stop me but it would seem that this maid has piqued her interest and had completely forgotten me.

I listened in on their conversation since that is what I like to do. The maid basically told Tina her entire background story. From what I've heard, the maid's name is Lily. She's a human and was a newly hired maid that Luke found by a slave merchant. Lily never knew her family and she lived most of her life serving nobles. But due to the way she speaks and her clumsiness, the nobles would end up kicking her out. A slave merchant would then find her and the cycle repeats again. When Luke found her, she was glad. Luke accepted her and gave her a chance to learn how to do things properly. That's why she decided that she would give it her all and repay the kindness given to her by Luke. Her mentor, who is another maid from the manor, has taught her a lot. Her current life was definitely better than before and she's grateful to Luke and her mentor who taught her tons of things.

Tina listened to it all and nodded her head. It was as if Tina knew what she's been through and understood it perfectly. As for me, I was mostly concerned about the topic of slaves. It was my first time hearing that term ever since my reincarnation. I've always known that there was some sort of hierarchy in this world, but it never crossed my mind that slaves actually existed.
