Veronica looked over and jumped. Her father's dead body was hanging upside down from his seatbelt. Her eyes widened slightly when she realized she's wasn't in the woods. Rather a pool. She kicked and hit the car window in a full on panic. She wanted to scream, she could've if she wanted too, it was a dream after all. But something in the back of her mind said it was real. That if she were to scream, whoever owned this house would come outside and she would be forced to explain how this happened. That thought actively kept her from doing so. Instead she kicked the windows as best as she could. Avoiding looking at her father.
Isaac ran down Veronica's stairs after realizing she wasn't in the bed anymore. It was 4 AM and she was gone. He ran passed the kitchen and stopped. He turned around and went back to the living room. He looked around at the photos of Selena. He realized he had recognized her. Selena was on the swimteam in 2006. Next to the photo, there was a drawing on the accent table. It looked just drawn, and in a hurry. It was of a pool. He heard a noise and followed it.
Veronica with a heavy head was beginning to panic. She looked over at her father body and had seen a tool belt. In the belt, there were a pair of bolt cutters. Veronica let out a string of apologies as she snaked her arm around his corpse. Once the bolt cutters were in her hands she smashed them against the car's window.
Isaac turned around at the sound of tiny footsteps behind him. “Narcissa?” He said looking at the dog. She barked. “Alright go home.” The dog barked again before running off. Isaac sighed and chased after the dog. Knowing that if Narcissa went missing, Veronica wouldn't forgive him.
The water was filling up the car a lot faster than she expected it would. She kicked the rest of the window out and crawled through it. She pushed herself closer to the surface, she swore she had seen Selena pull out some young kid out of the pool.
Isaac had chased Narcissa all the way back to his old house and into the backyard. He looked up and back at the dog in shock.
Veronica broke the surface.
Isaac pulled Veronica back from the edge of the pool, just seconds before she actually had the chance to fall in. Daze broken, Veronica let out a gasp. “How did I get here?” She asked looking at him.
Isaac shook his head and shrugged,“I don't know.. I woke up and you were gone. I thought you went to Scott or Stiles so I started heading that way but then Narcissa followed me and brought me here.
Veronica turned around to the spot where she had seen Selena and the boy. Only now they were gone. There was no car in the pool. And she was completely dry except for the tears on her cheeks. The only people here were Isaac and herself, along with her dog, Narcissa.
“No? There was a car in the pool and my aunt was there. And I was stuck in the car with my dad's dead body. Again. And there was a little boy. Why am I dry? I should be soaking wet.” Veronica said shaking her head and pointing. She looked over at Isaac who looked at her worriedly, “I know I sound insane Isaac but I swear I'm telling the truth. It was all right there.”
“Do you want me to call Stiles?” He asked.
Veronica shook her head again,“No. Absolutely not. Do not call Stiles. Never mention this to Stiles, please?” Isaac nodded and grabbed her hands.
“Okay. And I believe you.” He told her.
Veronica felt like a weight was lifted off of her chest. She smiled and wiped her eyes before hugging him. Isaac hugged her back while he looked at the pool. For any sign that anyone else was there. But he didn't see one, so he hugged her tighter. Veronica might've been going insane. Or she might've been telling the truth. In either case. Isaac would've never found out that night.
Narcissa began to tug at Veronica's pajama pants, which meant it was time to go. Veronica didn't want to stay any longer anyways. She didn't want the Kanima to show up, and she didn't want to be around the pool anymore. So she pulled away from the hug and started to walk away, pulling on Isaac's hand so that he'd come with.
Wordlessly the new couple walked home, Narcissa was right by Isaac's side. And when they got back to the house, Isaac laid down and went to sleep. Veronica however couldn't sleep for the rest of the night, so she found herself brewing a cup of coffee. She heard a yawn and turned around to see Selena walking into the kitchen. “You're back?” she said.
Veronica nodded silently and took a drink. She wasn't just mad at Stiles, considering that it was Selena's spell that brought her back. Infact she was more pissed at Selena than she was at Stiles. Could neither of them see that she was in pain or insane? She would've made a beautiful sunset. A beautiful thunderstorm. She could've seen her parents again, and she would've been fine. Eventually everyone would've been fine.
Still, she couldn't rid of the fact that part of her wasn't actually all that pissed. That she had a second chance. She got to live. That part of Veronica felt selfish for getting mad at Stiles and Selena for bringing her back. She wouldn't have to live passed her death. They did. At the same time. She hated that they didn't tell her. And she wasn't ready to forgive them.
“Veronica we didn't have a choice.” Selena said to her.
“You could've let me die. You could've at least told me.” Veronica said sitting up and looking at her. “There is always a choice.”
