I wake up in the middle of the night to pain. I can't help but cry because of how bad it felt. I tried my best not to yell. I woke Tanner up and told him I was in pain. "I think we need to go to the hospital." I start to worry.. the baby can't be coming, it's not time yet. We still have a week left until it comes. I hop out of bed and run to the bathroom. All of a sudden, my pants begin to feel wet. I yell from the bathroom, "Tanner!" He rushes into the bathroom. "My water just broke!" I start yelling. I can't contain it anymore. He first grabs the hospital bag and puts it in the car. He comes back inside and grabs Elena and me and rushes us to the car. We get to the hospital and yell for a nurse. The nurse brings out a wheelchair and she takes me to the birthing room. I tell the nurses and doctor that my baby's due date isn't for another week. The doctor looked at me at said, "well, maybe you're little miracle decided he wanted to make is arrival a little bit early." I screamed with pain. The nurses gave me an epidural shot to help with the pain. Tanner stood beside me and held my hand through it all. This birth was worse than when I gave birth to Elena. I squeeze Tanner's hand every time I pushed. I honestly don't think the epidural is working. I shout for the nurse to give me another shot. She gives me another epidural and it eases the pain a little bit. I push harder and harder and I can still feel pain. A few seconds later we welcomed a perfect, healthy boy into the world. Everything about him was absolutely perfect. I could not have made a more handsome boy. Tanner and I thought hard about names until it hit us. We waited until we were cleaned up and let the family in to announce the name of our son. We let everyone gather in the room to hear the name. After everyone was finally in the room, it was time. "Tanner and I thought hard about our son's name and what it was going to be, we have decided his name will be Harlon James." The family looked at us and smiled in awe. We looked at each other and then back at the family. Our little Harlon, who we have waited for what seems like eternity. Our miracle. We hold him and let our family admire the little boy we have created. Elena comes over to meet her baby brother and kisses him on the head. She loves her little brother already. My heart is completely full.
I woke up from a nap and see Tanner holding Harlon in his arms, talking to him. Elena is sitting right next to him begging her dad to let her hold her brother. I feel tears of joy start to roll down my face. Tanner sees me. "You're awake, how do you feel?" I smile at him. "Very tired." He looked at me and looked back down at our son. "He has been sleeping ever since you fed him." At least he sleeps good, that's a good thing. The doctor comes in to check on me and the baby. "How are we feeling?" I look at Tanner and Harlon. "I feel fine, just a little tired is all." He looks at me and smiles. "You'll be tired for a little bit, you were in labor for about 6 hours, that'll tire you out." I lay back in the bed. "Why don't you try and get some sleep?" I nod my head and he walks out of the door. I fall back asleep and dream of the future to come with my husband and children.
