Liyah eyes narrow, her nose scrunches, nails dig into her palm, and her back is straight like a pole. She feels like a watchdog, although she look nothing like one in a dress that costs an hour of double shifts and two days of trading food for fasting, sitting there at this fancy table in the most expensive restaurant in town.

All of this, from start to finish, is nothing but Y/N Y/L/N fault, and this time she aren’t too shy to say it.

Ever since she broke things off with the crooked-nosed girl, she swear she's seen you everywhere, which can only be defined as a pancake stack of miracles because she knows firsthand your busy schedule and the fact that you can’t get out of shooting unless it’s a national crisis—hell, that’s why she left you in the first place. Liyah loved you so very much, she probably still does now, but you were too careless with your feelings, your trust, and your patience.

Before she accepted going out with you, she knew what she was getting herself into. You are perhaps the busiest woman she will ever meet. If you're not off filming in a dozen countries far away from her, then you're at a fan meeting. And if you're not at a fan meeting, you're on press tours and interviews. She was ready to give you her all, something she did and would do all over again for you; but you weren't.

Weeks would go buy without a single text from you. At one point, she had gotten tired of driving to your house or hotel room to drop off food and get barely acknowledged; she had gotten tired of feeling like a clingy girlfriend whenever she texted your friends and brother to see if you were even alive; and mostly, Aaliyah had gotten tired of dating a wall.

And so she had finally dropped the news on you that, while she loves you more than anything, sometimes love isn’t enough to make a relationship work, especially when only one person is prepared to give that love. Even today, a whole month later, when she's dressed to the nines at a chic restaurant and waiting for her first date in a year and a half, a date who was successful, charming, funny, and everything a girl could hope for—even now, a part of her still aches as she remembers your anguished face when the girl left you.

But that wasn’t the end of her and you—oh no, far from it. Because in one month, she's seen you more than she had in your entire relationship.

She's seen you at a coffee shop across town from your house, she's seen you at a toy store when the girl was picking out a gift for her nephew’s birthday, shes seen you at a bakery a two-hour drive away. For God’s sake, she’s seen you at Victoria’s Secret, and you're about as flat-assed as they get, so the singer knew your excuse of looking at thongs because you heard they “really support the cheeks” is bullshit.

Tonight, though, she's determined to not see you. As creepy as it is, she made sure to get your schedule from best friend and convinced her date to book the soiree at a restaurant smack dab in the middle of a late show interview an hour away from the venue. Sipping on a complimentary glass of wine because she can’t afford a raw piece of mushroom in this place, she felt satisfied.
