“Wow Y/N, this place is really nice.” Liyah breathes out in awe of the dimly lit, yet extravagant five star restaurant. While she glanced down at her attire, feeling almost out of place by her simple little black dress and non-designer shoes, her hands began to shake a little, thinking about how expensive this dinner must be.
"You really went all out this time, huh?" She mutters, eyes examining each and every little detail the luxurious restaurant held, from its over the top furniture all the way down to its very own personal fish aquarium.
“What this?” You motioned around the building, looking over at the woman with a grin, shaking your head. "This is nothing. Anything for the birthday girl." You beamed, pulling out her chair for the brunette to sit down.
She just nods, not feeling as amused as you were at the moment. “I wish you would’ve told me we were coming here. I would’ve dressed better.” She said quietly as she sat down in the chair across from you, eyeing the many women all dressed up in jaw dropping, fancy dresses looking like Anna Wintour herself designed them, at the other tables surrounding you two. They all were runway ready, while she just settled on a normal plain thrift store brought dress.
“Well you see originally I was going to get us reservations somewhere by the waterfront, but seeing that its in the early stages of winter I decided against it.” You sat down across from her, adjusting your blazer as you did so, a sharply dressed waiter came up to the table, offering you two champagne immediately. Before Liyah could kindly decline the offer, you insisted on the drinks.
She blew out a small breath, quickly moving her head back and forth. "Listen I know I may have grown up in Detroit where we have cold weather on the daily basis, but that doesn't mean I got used to it. Sitting outside by the water during the month of January does not sound fun."
"Mhm. I know, that's why this was my next choice." You state. Leaning back in the seat you took a quick glimpse around the place, eyeing the ladies dresses, then turning back towards Aaliyah who watched you with curious eyes. You were confused by her statement of everyone being better dressed than she was. To you all the women looked like they had on identical outfits, no one stood out and that somewhat upset you that she thought she had to look just like them just to fit in.
"Baby. Look around for me and tell me what you see." You spoke in a hushed whisper, leaning closer to her.
"If you’re trying to prove a point you're not really doing a good job at it..." She blurts out, watching the women as they walked back and forth pass the table. "Because those dresses make mine look like it should've stayed at the store Y/N."
You huffed, rolling your eyes at the oblivious girl. "No Li. What I'm saying is that everyone has the same dress on just in different colors, no outfit in here stands out..."
