Lyra and Mellie grew up together, joining the circus at relatively the same time. Lyra had joined up at age 10, being left behind by her parents at the first show after Mellie had gotten off the train. When she chose her act, all she knew is that she wanted to fly, so the obvious choice was Aerialist or Trapeze. The texture of the silks bothered her, so Trapeze it was.
Lyra has sensory processing disorder, and wears earplugs when she performs, she helps Lyra and/or the kids sneak out whenever they need it,
