~Friday after school~

Kat POV

I was wearing a black off-the-shoulder crop with a pair of jeans along with a pair of black open-toed heels.  I changed the shoes after class because I didn't want to have them on while I was walking around because they would hurt.  I was changing into the shoes while I was waiting for Shawn at my locker.  Alexa left right after class because she had to pick up her brother from school and because she knew about the "date" with Shawn.  I don't even know if this was considered a date because he told that we would be hanging out as friends.  There is a little part of me that was hoping that this is really date because I really want to get to know him a little more.

I'm touching up my make-up in the mirror in my locker when I saw another reflection of someone and I saw that it was Shawn.

"Hey Mendes," I said while turning to face him and closing my locker.

"Hi Hayes." He said, "What are we on a last name basis now?"

"Maybe we are, maybe we're not." I said to him, " Sorry Shawn."

"I was just joking.  Its just that its how Justin and I greet each other."

"I know you were.  Just thought I'd call you by your last name."

"Whatever makes you comfortable," he said.

"So where are we going?," I asked him because he never gave me details on what we are doing and I was curious.

"That's for me to know and you to find out," he said.

"Ooh so mysterious Mendes," I said laughing.

"You ready to go?," he asked.

"Yeah. I've been ready. Let's go," I said to him.  He started walking out the door and I followed behind him and I was starting to admire him from behind.  He was wearing a pair of jeans with a white t-shirt along with a pair of white Converse.  I was admiring how tall he was and the way his hair fell on his face.  His hair was short but it was also curly around the top and he had a few strands of his hair fall on his forehead.  Shawn and I walked to the park across from the school and he was holding a picnic basket.

"I guess its a picnic then huh?," I asked.

"Yeah. I just thought it'd be better than going out to like a restaurant or something," he said.

"Well I like it," I said sitting on the blanket he set down a minute ago.  He then sat next to me and leaned on his elbows.  Shawn took out a few sandwiches, a liter of soda, and two plastic cups.  he handed a sandwich to me a poured me a cup of soda.

"Surprised that you decided to bring soda and not alcohol," I said.

"Just thought that we take a break from drinking," he said.

"I think we had enough alcohol for until we're old enough to drink," I said while taking a bite out of my sandwich.  There was something about Shawn that made me feel at ease because of the way he was acting towards me the whole time.

Shawn POV

I couldn't stop looking at her the entire picnic because she was just so beautiful.  She made me feel a certain type of way that I can't explain.  Kat wore an off-the shoulder crop top that showed off the tattoo she had on the top of her stomach along with the ones she had on her arms and shoulders.  The jeans she was wearing hugged every single curve on her body and her hair fell straight down her shoulders.

"Can I ask you something?," she asked me snapping me out of my thoughts.

"How were you friends with Addison?," she asked.

"I was only friends with her in preschool," I said.

"What happened?"

"It's kind of a long story.  I'll tell you anyway."

"Go ahead, we have all day."

"She moved here from Texas and there were these girls that were making of her because of her accent.  Justin and I went over to her and told those kids to stop messing with her.  She thanked us and we gave her our names.  Addison gave us her name and asked us if we would like to be friends with her.  We said 'yes' and since that day she called us her 'knights in shining armor', I explained.

"Aww that was so cute.  Didn't know that you were so chivalrous," she said.

"I mean I was trying to be nice.  Then we started drifting apart around middle school," I told her.

"We used to play around with each other when we were kids," she said.

"Yeah we did." I said, "Why did you stop coming over though? That's what I didn't understand."

"I honestly don't know." She said, "we just had a lot of issues with the family."

"Wow, I had no idea that was going on with you," I said.

"It was mostly issues with my dad.  He left when I was still a baby," she said.  When she said that, I noticed that her smile was starting to fade and I realized that this was a really touchy subject for her so I decided to cheer her up.  I reached into the basket and took out a small box of cupcakes and offered one to her.

"Cupcake?," I asked while I opened the box.

"Sure," she said while taking it out.  She gave me a small smile and just looked in my eyes.

"What?  Is there something on my face?," I asked her.

"Yeah there is," she answered.

"Where?," I asked while putting my hands on my face.

"Riiight about there," she said while scooping a small amount of frosting on her finger and putting it on my nose.

"Ok you did not just do that," I said while taking a napkin and cleaning it off my nose.

"What are you going to do about that?," she teased.  I took a bit of frosting off the cupcake and attempted to put some on her cheek and she was trying to fight me off.

"No.  Don't even think about it Mendes," she said laughing.

"You started this. Now I'm ending it," I said and placed the frosting on her cheek.   After I did that I ran away from her.

"You're dead Mendes!," she yelled chasing after me.  I hid behind a tree when she started looking for me.  She was going to kill me if she found me.

"Shawn, where did you go?," she asked. I decided to scare her.  I snuck up from behind her, lifted her up and spun her around and she squealed with laughter.  I swear I could hear her laugh all day and I would do anything to make that laugh come out of her.

"Put me down Shawn! Put me down!," she yelled in between laughs.  I placed her down gently and turned her around to face me.  I looked deep into her blue eyes and saw a little twinkle in them.  I moved a small strand of her hair and put it behind her ear.  I put my hands around her waist and pulled her close to my body.  I leaned down and placed my lips against hers.
