Chapter 8

Kat POV

"Go out with me," he blurted out.

"Like a date?," I asked.

"Not really. More like as friends." He said,"it can be a date if you want it to be."

I could tell he was nervous by the way he was stuttering by asking me the question and he was rubbing the back of his neck.  For some reason I found that he looked cute while he was nervous.

"Please say 'yes' or 'no' so it looks like I have a little bit of game," he said.

"I'd love to," I answered.

"Really?"

"Absolutely.  But just as friends, right?"

"Yeah as friends.  Here's the thing I just wanna get to know you better and I kind of owe you for taking care of me when I got drunk," he said.  

"You really don't.  I just want to thank you for cleaning me up the other day," I told him.

"So how does Friday sound?," he asked.

"Sounds good. After school then?"

"Yeah, sounds good. So see you Friday," he said and left to class.

Shawn POV

~Later that day~

She said "yes". She actually accepted my invitation and I couldn't be happier.  I waited for Justin after class because I wanted to tell him what Kat said but also want to kill him for leaving me alone with Kat.  I then saw him walking down the hall and he stopped where I was standing.

"So, how'd it go? What'd she say?," he asked.

"Before I tell you how it went, can you do me a favor?," I asked.

"Yeah sure," he answered.

"Give me your hand," I said.

"Why?," he asked confused.  He then held out his hand and I grabbed his wrist then slapped it.

"Ow! What the fuck Shawn?," he said.

"That was for leaving me behind earlier."

"I only did that so you could have alone time with Kat. It worked, didn't it?"

"Yeah it did. But don't ever do that to me again."

"I won't.  Look I just wanted you to get the chance to ask her out without me there.  I was doing you a favor."

"Thank you, by the way," I said.

"What did she say?," he asked.

"She said 'yes'", I answered.

"Dude that's awesome," he said.

"But I told her that it wasn't like a date," I told him.

"Oh." He said, "why did you say that?"

"Because I thought it would make her uncomfortable if I said it was a date. So I just told her we'd go out as friends," I explained.

"At least you asked her and she accepted so that's good," he said.  We walked out of the building and started walking home.  The thought of me telling Kat that we were going out as friends made me feel uncomfortable but I only did that so she won't know that I liked her.  We stopped at my place and Justin said "bye" then continued walking home.  I saw Kat walking to her house and when she saw me she waved.  I obviously waved back at her and smiled.  After she went inside her house I went in as well and saw that my sister was home.

"Hey Kris," I said when I saw her in the kitchen.

"Hey little bro," she said.

"I'm not little anymore," I said sitting on a bar stool in the kitchen.

"I know but you're still younger than me." She said, "what's up with you?"

"How do you know something's up?"

"I'm your sister.  I can tell something is going on with you by the way you're smiling and the way you walked in the door."

"Am I really that obvious?"

"Yes, yes you are." She said,"so tell me what's up."

"Ok.  I wound up asking out Kat today," I said.

"You did? That's great," she said.

"Here's the thing I told her that we go out as friends so she wouldn't think that it was a date," I told her.

"Did you make it seem like that so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable?," she asked.

"I did. Its because I don't want her to know that I like her," I said.

"But you do like her.  You had a crush on her for God knows how long," she said.

"I know that."

"Name a few qualities you like about her," she said.

"I like the way she smiles, the way her hair goes down her back, her tattoos that cover her arms." I continued, "the way she walks down the halls with a confidence like she doesn't have a care in the world, and the way her voice sounds.  Her voice sounds like a dove or like a lullaby.  Her eyes are the most beautiful thing about her. They are just this really light blue and they fit her so well."

"Shawn, I don't think you like her," she said after I rambled.

"What do you mean?," I asked.

"I think you're in love with her," she said.
