Side Effects

Chapter 17:

I instantly pulled away. For some odd reason, it didnt feel right at all. No.. i didnt feel any "sparks" or any of that cliche' shit. I just felt weird kissing him I mean i just met the kid!

"I.. uhh.. sorry" He mumbled.

"Oh.. its o-okay" I shook my head turning my chair.

"I know we just met.. im sorry for doing that. I was just in the moment and i... i dont know." He frowned and i turned my head smiling small.

"No.. i understand. Lets just get back to the project." Aaron nodded and we continued for about another two more hours until my phone vibrated in my lap causing me to jump a bit. I looked down at the caller I.D to see Alex's name. So i clicked answer and held the phone up to my ear.

"Hey!" I answer and Aaron looked over so i mouthed "Alex" and he nodded.

"Hellooo. My mom wants you to come back for dinner" he replied.

"Alright. I'll be there soon!" I chirped and we said our goodbyes finally hanging up.

"Well.. i have to go" I frowned. "But ill see you tomorrow. Okay?" I stood up from the chair just as Aaron did.

"Okay" He smiled a small smile. "Need a ride back?" He asked sticking his hands in his pockets.

"Yes. Thank you" I nodded slipping my phone in my back pocket as i walked out of the large computer room and to the front door putting my shoes back on. Aaron did the same as i noticed his parents were still not home.

"How long do your parents work?" I laughed a little walking outside to his truck.

"They work late. Until like 11:00. So basically i get the whole house to myself when i get home. It gets really creepy at times" He chuckled and i laughed.

"Yeah, i bet. Your house is huge!" Aaron just laughed and drove to Alex's.. i mean 'my' house.

He finally drove up onto the drive way and i opened the door jumping out.

"Thank you!" I waved and smiled before closing the large door. I walked up the stone steps to the front door once again waving to Aaron before he drove off.

I stepped inside and was about to shoot up the stairs when Sue's voice stopped me.

"How was it?" She questioned smiling.

"Great!" I turned. "We got half the essay done" I nodded and she gave me a thumbs up as i laughed.

"Thats good! Well we have company coming. Michelle and Austin are coming over to join us for dinner!" She smiled big. "So get ready and be down in and houurr" She sang as she walked back into the kitchen.

My heart literally dropped when she said Austin's name. I turned slowly with a shocked face and went up the stairs. I bumped right into a hard chest and looked up to see Alex.

"Hey" I tried smiling atleast a little.

"Hey... Uh.. Why were you at Aaron's house?" He scratched the back on his neck as i stepped back.

"We had to work on an essay..." I dragged on.

"Well that kids bad news. He has a reputation. And not a very good one at that. He uses girls and Ava.. I dont want you being used. You already have gone through so much. Im just looking out for you. Like a big brother. Dont take it the wrong way.. I know you can take care of yourself... But i just want you safe okay?" When he finished i hugged him immediately wrapping my arms around his torso as he wrapped his around my neck.

"Thank you..." I pulled away and looked up at him. "Aaron seems nice though" I shook my head.

"Thats how he is with every girl. Look.. Ava you can still talk to him, be friends with him but im telling you be careful of him" Alex put his hands on my shoulder and i nodded. "Good now get ready loser" He laughed and i stuck my tongue out at him.

I walked into the gue- my room and searched for something nice. I rummaged through the clothes hung up in my closet until i found a maroon casual dress. The sleeves go down to the elbows and it flows to just above my knees. I smiled and picked it up remembering my mom got this for me for christmas. She told me to put it on for christmas dinner. She said it looked beautiful on me.

I slipped out of my clothes and put the silky dress on. I looked into the mirror above my dresser and twirled around a little laughing at myself. I found black slip-ons to match the black buttons on the front of the dress.

I left my hair wavy as it was all day. I looked down at my legs frowning. You can still see the slight burns. The ones on my arms are nicely covered but i guess we'll be seated at the table so no one should really notice. Plus, they know what i went through. I skipped down the wooden stairs and into the kitchen to be greeted by a delicious smell of chicken and pasta.

"Chicken parmesan?" I asked and Sue turned around smiling.

"Mmhmm!" She started making the plates putting the steamy pasta on them.

"Smells delicious! Need help?" I asked and she nodded.

"Thank you! and sure just pour the sauce on?" I did as she said and poured even amounts on each then she put the chicken on and i poured the extras over.

"Set the table please?" She turnes to me and i set the table nicely placing the plates down and cups. Right on time the doorbell rang and i heard Austin and Alex greet each other then i heard Michelle's sweet voice. Alex, Austin, Michelle, and Adam came in and all sat themselves down.

Of course the only seat left was next to Austin. I sat down not even looking at him. Just giving him a small smile when he came in. Everyone got their drinks and we finally all dug in. I nodded my head after my first bite.

"This is delicious!" Austin smiled and Sue thanked him.

"Where's Ruban?" Michelle started a conversation with Sue. I was startled when i felt a kick at my leg in the direction of Austin. I glared at him and was about to turn away when he mouthed 'im sorry' I shook my head and turned away. I felt another kick and his eyes burning holes into the side of my head. I yelped in pain when he hit a burn.

Everyone turned to look at me and my eyes widened.

"Uh.. Excuse me!" I pushed my chair back before exiting the kitchen running up the stairs. I was about to go into my room when i heard someone behind me. Austin.

"Ava.. Please list-" He started.

"No.." I interupted him going into my room only to have him follow.

"Please give me a second chance. Im stupid. I messed up. I know. Ava... please. Everyone deserves a second chance." I sat on the side of my and suddently felt a dip. I looked over and saw Austin. He cupped my face in my hands gently. Like i was fragile or something. "Please..." He said barely above a whisper. I turned my head away once again.

Only to have Austin turn my head slowly back to face him. He leaned in kissing me gently on the lips. I didnt kiss back until i felt something. I felt butterflies in my stomach. My head felt like it was spinning. I guess i never really felt this the other times we kissed. I guess i wasnt paying attention.

So, yes... I guess i am finally feeling those gay cliche' feelings you get when you 'kiss the right person'

and let me tell you... they feel amazing.
