Miyako giggled into the boys lips, and opened her eyes. She softly ran her fingers through Juuzou's hair and looked at the tears freshly placed on his cheeks.
"Don't cry." She spoke, running her thumbs under Juuzou's eyes to remove the tears. Juuzou placed his hand over Miyako's, interlocking their fingers together. He breathed out, and looked up at the darkened sky.
Juuzou smiled then, and squeezed Miyako's hand. He didn't mind crying in front of Miyako; he felt comfortable enough to.
"I think,' Juuzou looked back at Miyako, still smiling. "Things are going to be just fine between us."
Miyako couldn't help but snort at Juuzou's comment, receiving another squeeze to her hand.
"What was that noise?" Juuzou laughed, cocking an eyebrow at the girl. Miyako's cheeks began to heat up, and she averted her eyes.
"Miyako." Juuzou's bubbly voice suddenly dropped, and oozed like honey against her skin.
Placing his fingers under her chin, Juuzou lifted Miyako's face up to look at him.Miyako couldn't find her breath, and instead only looked into the boys deep eyes. He brought his face closer.
"Thank you for everything." He whispered, before quickly drawing back and standing up. Juuzou suddenly lifted Miyako to her feet, and she stared at him in silence.
"Juuzou I-" Something caught Miyako's eyes in the distance, and she cut herself off. Staring out, she saw a black silhouette watching.
Kaneki."I have to go." She quickly breathed out, turning away from Juuzou. Juuzou grabbed hold of her wrist, gripping onto it firmly.
"We'll see each other soon, right?" He asked quietly, desperation seeping out of his voice. Miyako let her eyes fall back onto Kaneki and watched as he turned away; jumping down out of her sight. She looked at Juuzou once more- scanning his face quietly before nodding.
"In the most unexpected way." She smiled reassuringly, interlocking their fingers together before squeezing Juuzou's hand. His face relaxed completely as her words entered his head, and he leaned in quickly- stealing a small kiss on the cheek.
"Until then." Juuzou whispered, pulling away and dropping Miyako's hand. She nodded again before spinning around on her heel; quickening her step as she headed further away from the boy.
As she glided down the stairs, Miyako couldn't help but feel a deepening pit open in her stomach; nearing Kaneki with each step. She didn't exactly know why she was feeling this way- it's not like Kaneki knew who Juuzou was. Right?
Miyako quickly made her way out of the building, hauling herself onto the pathway; looking around herself. She, in a sense, was hoping Kaneki hadn't been able to identify her- however deep inside Miyako knew that was a weak speck hope waiting to be destroyed.
Taking a slow step back in beginning the process of turning around, the grazing of something unexpected brushed onto her shoulder; causing Miyako to jolt slightly.
"Sorry, I..." An exhausted sigh. "Sorry."
The familiar voice calmed Miyako's tension and she eased herself into the hand, now placed on her shoulder.
Miyako didn't feel like it was her time to speak yet, and Kaneki wasn't going to listen in the slightest. His mind was somewhat preoccupied with something even Miyako could sense was a little discomforting."I didn't mean to disturb you and, well..." Kaneki trailed off again, closing his eyes in a small frustration. "I just didn't want to be alone right now and I thought you were just going out to get food, I'm sorry." He dropped his head, his voice ending in a breath of emptiness as he removed his hand from Miyako's shoulder and covered his face.
"It's.." She turned to face him, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Kaneki? There's something wrong, isn't there?" She didn't mean to pry, well; not entirely. Miyako knew the boys reply would be more than vague. He breathed out heavily through his nose before running a hand up his forehead and into his dark hair, gripping the ends a little too tightly.
"Nothing I'm not used to." He forced the smallest smile then, pushing away all reveal of vulnerability. He wasn't going to break down in front of Miyako again. He couldn't bring himself to gain her sympathy only. He needed hope in his life, not the mass amount of pity he felt lurching deep in his chest.
Miyako nodded, deciding it wasn't right to delve into confrontation right away. Despite wanting to be able to help Kaneki as best she could, it wasn't her place to start asking uncomfortable questions. That, and she still didn't know a lot about him except for that fact he was a broken spirit.
Miyako often wondered whether she should fix the boy, but quickly understanding soon after that people and ghouls are not meant to be fixed. They weren't toys that could easily be rendered or even replaces, they were something much more interesting. Fixing wasn't a part of life; but growing sure as hell was.
She smiled back warmly, patting his arm lightly. She wouldn't fix, but Miyako could definitely make him forget; even if for the briefest of a moment."I think a bite to eat sounds amazing, Kaneki."
The boy looked down at Miyako, an ever slight of a glimmer in his eyes as he agreed to her choice. He knew by a long shot that it'd still taste awful, but flavour and liking was far from his taste buds right now.
"Food it is then." Kaneki smiled genuinely this time, and Miyako felt a warm sensation of success rising in her. Kaneki needed somebody to count on, he himself was finding it exhausting to question everyone's liability lately.
They began to walk, a content silence blooming around them. Miyako allowed her thoughts to fall back onto Juuzou, and she found herself pressing a soft smile to her mouth.
All the while, Juuzou stared wide eyed in confusion as he watched Miyako walk with somebody else."Oh..? I wonder who that could be." He smiled to himself before giggling lightly. "Only time will tell."
He walked boldly across the edges of the building, repeating three words.
"Time will tell. Time will tell."
He laughed louder.
"Time will tell."
