LYRA

"You've been staring at those flowers all day, Ly," Harley announced as she emerged from the bathroom. "They're not going anywhere."

"It's been forever since I've gotten peonies," I admitted, gently playing with the petal.

"What made you fall in love with those?" Harley curiously asked, hopping on the counter.

"I don't know, I just... always have been from what I remember. It's... a comfort flower for me."

"It could be something from your past... or your childhood more specifically."

I let out a sigh, leaning against the counter and resting my head in my hand.

"Everything about my childhood is foggy. Before Clyde and running around in foster care... I don't really remember anything," I explained, turning to look at her then shaking my head. "Anyways, let's do something or talk about something else to kill time."

"Let's stop at the organization. I have stuff to get done," Harley spoke, jumping over the couch and sliding on her shoes.

I threw my shoes on next, grabbed my keys and headed out the door. Harley begged to drive and the more I ignored, the more annoying her begging got. I caved and tossed her the keys instead of slapping her.

The car ride was silent but comforting as always. When Harley drives, she doesn't communicate much since she's always so focused. That, and she's scared she'll swerve off the road if she gets distracted.

The other night was still on my mind. Our talk, dinner... our kiss. It's been so long since I've been with someone, let alone kiss someone and somehow he still manages to make my heart race. Even with a single look.

I shook my head then sat up a bit once the building came into view. When Harley parked, I hopped out and caught the keys when she tossed them to me.

The doors were already being held open by the time we were out the car. Andrew and Gabriel threw us a smile with a slight head nod in the process.

"Nice to see you, Ms. Blackstone. What's the occasion for the visit today?" Gabriel asked.

"Just a random visit. Anything happened today?" I asked, standing beside him.

"Not really. Just a bunch of meetings and training happening. The usual," Andrew chimed in. "Clyde's been in his office all day, so everybody's been in their own zone."

I nodded and thanked them for holding the doors open then walked down the hall with Harley. It didn't seem as chaotic like it usually is, which was perfect. The less chaos, the better for me.

Clyde's office door swung open and I mentally swore as he beckoned me in. I glanced at Harley who was chuckling and patting my shoulder before walking off. With a sigh, I walked in the room and sat in the empty chair in front of his desk.

He shut the door then sat in his rolling chair on the other side, immediately looking at me.

"You've been smiling more," he muttered, clasping his hands over his desk.

"You made me come in here just for casual conversation?" I snorted, leaning back.

"No... think of it as a father-daughter talk," he said with a smile.
