MASON
"How do you always manage to pop up when something goes wrong?" Jacey asked as she let Griffin inside.
"Call it best friends' intuition," he grinned.
"Well, good luck. He's sulking in the kitchen," Jacey muttered.
"I can still hear you," I said, glaring at her.
"Good. Maybe you can get out of this stupid hermit phase you've put yourself in," she snapped, walking up to me.
"Jacey, you've been badgering me all goddamn day and honestly, I'm getting sick and tired of it."
"And I'm getting sick and tired of your mopey attitude."
"Yippee, I walked into a sibling argument," Griffin muttered, leaning against the wall. "What's his issue now?"
"My issue is her harassing me."
"Since Lyra and him got into that argument, he's been a little dickhead."
I can't even remember when's the last time I've had my own space. Jacey's been ten times more overbearing than usual, and it is annoying as hell.
Fixing myself a drink isn't even an option without her snatching the glass away or pouring it down the drain.
"I was doing perfectly fine without you or Griffin sticking your nose where it doesn't belong," I snapped, bringing the glass to my mouth.
Jacey pushed it out of my hand, the liquid splashing onto the floor.
"We may be blood, but I will not hesitate to kick your ass, Mason," she threatened, pushing me out of the kitchen.
"Come on, man. You don't normally act like this," Griffin added, following me to my room.
I couldn't even respond to that. Was he wrong? No. But it's not like I'd admit that to his face.
The one time I want to be alone, no one wants to leave me alone. I bought a house and can't even sleep peacefully in it because Jacey refuses to go back home.
I sat on the side of my bed, avoiding the hard stares from Griffin and Jacey.
Just ten minutes of peace and quiet. Is that too much to ask for?
"What happened with you and Lyra that has you down in the dumps?" Griffin questioned, plopping down beside me.
Running my hands down my face, I blew out a sigh then explained everything. From Lyra finding the documents to her storming out and not wanting to see me again.
That definitely hurt more than I thought it would.
"Damn," Griffin mumbled. "And you haven't talked to her since?"
I shook my head then laid back on the bed, bringing my arm over my eyes. If only not thinking about the situation was an option. Now, it was just overwhelmingly hot and mind torturing.
"Well... I'll go help mom with some things back home and come back with some food. I highly doubt you've eaten yet."
"A-And I'll help her, I guess," Griffin quickly said.
My room opened then shut again and I peeked from under my arm, sighing when I see they were gone.
This isn't even close to a heartbreak, but it damn sure feels like one. Now, I know how she felt when I left that night. It's probably not even close, but at least I don't have to imagine it.
