Headache

Heeseung felt the air getting trapped in his lungs.
Painfully.

He had been reading in his room when he had heard giggles coming down the stairs.
Now, he knew all of his friends' laughters, but this was different.
It felt overly sweet and Heeseung grew curious.

Definitely not Jungwon and Jayoung.
They never giggle.

The boy put his book down and silently got up.
As his door was slightly open, he discreetly picked behind it, only to finally understand the pain in his chest.

His heart had already recognized the voices, which his brain had refused to process until further proof was given.
However there was no mistake.

The giggles came form Jake and Sunghoon.

Heeseung watched them pass by silently. They had come from upstairs and were apparently headed for the dining room.

Hands tightly connected.

As soon as he couldn't see them anymore, Heeseung realized that he hadn't breathed the whole time.

He stepped back, not understanding what was happening.

~

A knock on the door hadn't been enough to provoke any kind of reaction in the oldest boy. He was still laying on his bed, not even motivated enough to cover himself with his blanket.

He was just... there.

A second attempt happened on the door.

"Hee?"

The latter knew it was Jay, but that didn't change anything.

"I'm not here" said Heeseung in a voice just loud enough to be heard.
"Good, so you won't mind if I come in then" replied Jay, opening up the door.

Heeseung didn't even sigh.
He didn't care.
Nothing mattered.

Jay came closer, a cup of what seemed to be tea in his hand.

"Want to talk about it or do you want to stay this amorphous creature on your bed forever?" he asked, side smiling.

Heeseung didn't react.

"Brought you tea" added the younger. "Plus to be honest, I know what's going on, so you don't need to fill me in."

He put the cup on the nightstand and sat next to Heeseung, his torso facing the latter.

"Look" he started, suddenly unsure of which words he needed to choose. "I noticed Jake and Sunghoon seem to have made an update on their relationship."

Heeseung froze.

So he does know

"I know it sucks" he added in a whisper. "I know cause I already hadn't Jungwon before, but now he..." Jay stopped his sentence in the middle, letting his last words float around them.
"But now he decided to change rooms" he finally admitted out loud.

Heeseung frowned. He had no idea.

"He's going to share Jayoung's room with her. And I'm going to be alone" whispered Jay.

Heeseung finally sat up.
He literally knew Jay's pain. And as much as it was comforting to know he wasn't alone, he was extremely saddened to hear about Jay's situation.

"I want them to be happy, for real" he whispered. "But why can't it be with me?"

Jay nodded.

"I feel so... left out" whispered Heeseung in a painful voice.

Jungwon had tried almost every room in the mansion. He had already checked the garden as well, but still no trace of the two older boys.
Eventually, there was only one room to check. Heeseung's.

The young man approached the bedroom door and softly knocked. As no answer greeted him, he decided to do something he hated doing, however time was passing and he had grown worried.

So Jungwon opened the door, only to find Jay and Heeseung asleep on the latter's bed.

A smile spread on his lips as he watched Jay's calm and peaceful figure. Jay looked like a godsend angel.
However, this sight did bring two problems in Jungwon's mind.

Firstly, what on earth was going on for these two to be sleeping next to each other?
And then, why on earth Jungwon wasn't Jay's roommate anymore?

Jungwon felt overwhelmed by this last question. So much so that he forced his feet to run away, leaving the door opened as he did so.
Jungwon did not think about it, he just moved as fast as he could, until he realized he was outside.

He sat down near a tree, placing his back against the tree trunk. It did help a bit.

However it didn't keep Jungwon from thinking.

He didn't even know why he was dating Jayoung in the first place. In fact, he couldn't even remember them holding hands, hugging and much less kissing.
What kind of couple were they at this point?

Why did he only feel safe when he was with Jay?

If she was his girlfriend, then shouldn't he feel safe with her?

Jungwon felt the first signs of a headache coming up. The pain was growing rapidly, just like a flower blooming in his brain.

"Every time..." he whispered, pressing his fingertips on his temples.

In fact Jungwon was saddened by those headaches. They always seem to appear out of nowhere when he tried remembering things.

Things like his previous home, the one that had burned; the beginning of his relationship with Jayoung; memories he had with Jay.

Cause on top of other things, it seemed like he had no memories of Jay and him. As if their friendship had been somehow established without any background.

The pain had doubled by now, forcing Jungwon to close his eyes.

As a matter of fact, he couldn't remember anything about anyone.
Not only about the boys, but also about Jayoung, about his parents...

Nothing.

"It's the trauma of watching your house burst into flames"

That he remembered.
It was the first thing he could remember.
Jayoung explaining to the boys what had happened and why they shouldn't worry too much.
She had promised the memories would come back, they just needed time to heal.

But how long will it take?

By now, the pain in Jungwon's head had become unbearable.
However, something inside kept pushing him further, and he wanted to listen to that something.
Somehow, it felt like he was on the right path, he just didn't know to where.

And for how long have we been here?

~

Sunoo couldn't think about anything else.
It felt like this hidden room in the ceiling was calling him.
The voice sounded feminine, sweet and inviting.

And he intended on accepting the invitation.

He had spent the whole afternoon looking for a way to reach it, however it had been in vain.
He had searched for a ladder, a hidden stair, or even a secret trap. But nothing.

On the other hand, he felt thankful for not having found a trap, for some reason he was kind of scared of the idea. However, he couldn't put a finger on the reason why.

Sunoo shook his head. Today's failure didn't matter.
He would succeed tomorrow.
No.
He had to succeed tomorrow.

He didn't understand why exactly, but it was important.
The room was calling him afterall.
