All Too Well

If the world was ending

It took Meredith a while before she was able to calm herself down. She wanted to go home but her shift wasn't over yet.
An hour, just one hour and then I can go home. She thought.
Before she could think about what she was gonna do this hour, she got paged to the ER. The incoming patient didn't have many injuries, mostly broken bones so he became Callie's patient. Meredith helped Callie for a bit, who multiple times gave her a concerned look. After a while she wasn't needed anymore and went home.

'Mommy!' Christopher shouted. Hey Chris she said and lifted him up. 'hi mom', Zola said looking up from her homework, ' can you help me with my math homework?' ' Ahm... I... Mommy is a bit tired, can you ask aunt Amelia, I'll help you another time, okay?' She nodded.
Meredith went upstairs and made herself a bath, she still had some time until she had to make dinner.

*Knock knock*
'Who is it?' Mer asked. ' It's me.' Nick answered. She fastly washed her face, she'd been crying and didn't want Nick to see that. ' Come in.'
'hi, how are you?' he asked kissing her softly.
' Fine, you?' 'yeah me too. You had a rough day, didn't you? You seem tired.'
He really knew her, she could hide her feelings from him.
'yeah I did.' He then took her in his strong arms arms and held her tightly. She couldn't help be tear up. 'hey, sshhh it's okay.' he kissed her cheek and neck, trying to calm his girlfriend down.
' I'm sorry, I.. I can't help it' she cried. 'It's okay , I'm here for you, I love you. ' 'I love you too.' she wispered.
They stood in each other's arms until they heard Amelia come home. ' I should go downstairs and make dinner' Meredith said, not wanting to move, he was her save place. 'mhm... Okay.' He turned her around in his arms and kissed her one last time. Then they went downstairs.

Meredith had a hard time not showing how she really felt, but she didn't want to let the kids down, they needed a happy mom. Nick saw her struggle and so now and then placed his had on her back to let her know he was there for her.
'Meredith can it talk to you?' Amy asked. She'd noticed that her sister wasn't feeling well too.
'What's up?' Mer asked when they were out of the kitchen, ' you don't have to pretend you fine Mer, we're alone' she said. She smiled softly, ' is it that obvious?' ' I'm sure the kids didn't notice but I do, I know you Meredith.'
' What happened today?' ' I.. I can't tell you, not yet, not now. I, I'm not ready yet.' she stuttered. ' ' okay, but know you can always talk to me, okay?' They hugged and then went into the kitchen again.
' Mom, can we have icecream after dinner?' Christopher ask. She laughed ' of course sweety.'

After dinner they all went to bed. It wasn't that late, but Meredith was exhausted. All she wanted to do was cry in Nick's arms and sleep. She had pretend to be fine the whole evening, for the kids, but as seen as she was in there bedroom, Nick saw her mood changing to how she really felt. He hated seeing her down and sad. What happened to her, he wondered.
Meredith walked around in there bedroom, clearly not knowing what to do, she was on the edge of breaking down. ' Meri come here.' he said, walking toward her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and softly rocked her in his arms. She started to cry, not able to control her emotions any longer. He lifted her up and sat her on his lap in the bed. Mer buried her face in his neck as he rubbed her back. What the heck happened to her! Did someone hurt her? Nick was desperate to know, he wanted to help but didn't know how. What he did know is that asking her, was no use, she was completely shut down and he wouldn't get anything out of her.
They sat like this for a long time, until Nick noticed that Meredith had fallen asleep. He laid her down in the bed and spooned her from behind, he wanted her to feel save. And so he fell asleep too.
