All Too Well

Hold me while you wait

'Nick? Nick! What's happening to me?' She cried.
'I don't know Mer, I wish I knew.'
He felt Mer's breathing getting faster, she was hyperventilating. He got on the bed and took her in his arm. 'Mer, breath with me!' 'You're gonna be okay, it okay.' She was totally panicked. ' I, I ca..can't br...reath!'
'Yes you can Meredith, In... and out' ' In... And out' he said.
She closed her eyes and tried to concentrate on his voice, what helped. Her heart rate was going down and her breathing too. ' It's okay Mer, you'll be fine' Nick tried to sound as calm as he could. But inside his was panicked, why was this happing to her? Why was she blind?
Meredith cried for a long time until she finally calmed down, her tense body began to relax agian.

Nick paged Amelia because something had to be wrong with her head, maybe she had a brain blead of something like that, maybe that was what was causing the to lose her vision.
A few minutes later Amy was there. 'What's wrong, are you okay Mer?' 'She can't see Amelia, she just can't!' Nick got tears in his eyes. You should not be crying, not with Mer next to you. He said to himself.
Amelia saw his upcoming tears. 'Nick can I talk to you?' he nodded and got up.
'You okay?' she asked when they were in the hall. ' Yes thank you.'

They took Meredith up for some scans to look for a bleading. There indeed was one. The bleading had stopped and the only thing they could do was wait for it to resolve itself. Operating wasn't an option.

'Meredith' Amy said walking into her room, 'It's me Amelia' 'Yes I can hear that!' Meredith said bitterly. 'We found the bleading, I can't operate on it, but it's gonna resolve itself in a little while, I'm pretty sure you'll regaine full sight again.' ' But what if I don't?'
'Meri you'll be fine, you won't stay blind!' Nick said.
' But we don't know that for sure' she continued ' you and I both know that it isn't guaranteed.' she teared up, but wiped them quickly away.
' Meredith Grey, you have overcome so many terrible things, you're going to survive this too!'  It was Bailey who just walk in and overheard Mer's last sentence.
' I'm not saying I'm giving up, I just can't have high hopes.' Meredith answered with a shaky voice
' Meredith you're not going to cry, you're going to eat, I got you some food, you are going to be fine okay!' Miranda commanded.
She nodded.

'Nick how late is it? She asked
'2 P.M. why?' ' The kids, I have to pick them up from Alex and Jo's.'
' I'll call him and ask him to bring the kids here, then we'll see were they can stay.' he said.

A little while later Jo and Alex came with Christopher and Zola. They talked to the kids about what happened to there mom.
Meredith wasn't allowed to go home yet and had to stay at the hospital for a week.

'Hi mama!' Zola said walking in. 'Hey Zo Zo, how was it with uncle Alex?' 'It was good, how are you feeling, does it hurt?' she wanted to know if her mom was okay. 'I'm okay Zola, Don't worry.'
' Mom we are here.' Bailey waved at Mer who ofcourse couldn't see him. ' I, I'm sorry.' Meredith said. Nick who was sitting next to Meredith's bed, squeezed her hand. He knew she felt terrible right now.
'Mom when can you see again?' little Christopher ask.
' We don't know exactly when Christopher but it will be soon.' Nick answered him. He nodded.

The kids stay for a while and then went back home with Amelia and Maggie. Nick stayed with Meredith who was feeling really down.

' Nick, will you still love me even if I stay blind?' Meredith asked breaking the silence.
' Meri you won't stay blind, and ofcourse I'll love you, I'll always love you, no matter what happens.' he said softly. He stood up and got on the bed, spooning Mer from behind. She flinched and cried silently. He kissed her hair and held her tightly. When she calmed down agian, she turned around in his arm.
She could feel that his face was close to her.
He knew what she wanted and started kissing her lips first soft, later more passionately. He kissed her cheek and neck and held her in his arms. In that moment she felt save, even though the world wasn't save at all.
She slowly drifted off in Nicks arms, hopeful that all of this had just been a really bad dream.
