lies

When Eli watched as Juno drove away in her mom's car ( that was practically hers since her mom never went anywhere and she was the one who did all the errands ) he couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to happen. That she was being weird and he would have to bug her to find out.

So when she texted that she made it home safely and sent a picture of her kitten sleeping on her bed, he called her. It rang and rang and rang before she sent a text that she was in the shower and would call back later.

The boy scoffed and was going to say 'how are you sending photos of your cat then?' but instead he typed okay and a smiley face.

The waiting took forever. Juno, known for her long and relaxing showers that lasted until the hot water went cold, took her the quickest shower of her life as Eli sat and stared at his phone like his life depended on it. It was as though he was going to be cursed with 13 years of bad luck if he even blinked. The 10 minutes felt like 10 years to him.

When the phone finally rang, a picture of her winking and her nose scrunched appearing on his screen with the sound of bubbles filling the room, he felt like his heart had been jump started like he was dying and someone shocked him back to life.

He picked up after the first ring, when he realized the phone was actually ringing and not him just wishing it would happen.

"Are you okay Eli?" Juno asked immediately. "I was gonna call in the shower but I figured the water would be to loud and you know how I don't like standing there after i'm wet so I hurried and-"

"I'm okay," he interrupted, breathless as though he had been running from the devil. "I'm okay, I wanted to ask if you were okay."

"I'm quite alright sir," she spoke in a terrible british accent. Eli couldn't miss her giggle. "Why do you ask?"

"I don't know," he mumbled. "Just had a feeling."

"Oh," she whispered. "Well I'm home and okay. The doors are all locked and the windows are covered, my mom is home too and Agent Coulson is here to protect me."

He could practically see her rub her cats chin as she said that, it was as though she was right in front of him.

"That's good," he sighed. "You'll tell me if something is up right?"

"Right."

"Good," he replied. "I'll let you go then."
