teen idle.

Juno swore that if Eli looked at her one more time she would punch him in the face. And then she would punch herself in the face for doing that when the boy did nothing wrong. Honestly, she felt guilty for even thinking that but if he kept looking at her like that she was sure going to lose it.

She fiddled with the end of her braid before moving her fingers down to the collar of her tight t-shirt. It suddenly felt too tight and it felt like it was melting into her skin. She tugged on the fabric around her waist as she squinted her eyes to read the paper in her shaking hands. She crossed her arms as if to focus better but she soon regretted it when she caught sight of the words and her eyes immediately became blurred with tears.

CAUSE OF DEATH: old age

She saw Eli look at her again from the corner of her eye. She couldn't tell if it was pity or worry or confusion. . .or just pure anticipation, whatever it was she didnt like it. She bit her tongue so hard she tasted pennies before looking at him expectantly. Like she was expecting him to tell her what to do, where to go, how to cope with the fact her cat was officially gone. But he said nothing.

"My cat is dead," she said. She couldn't see him very well through her blurred, tear-filled eyes but she could picture him just fine in her mind. She knew him that well.

"I know," Eli replied. His throat itched to say 'I'm sorry' but he refrained knowing Juno was going to snap at him again and say it wasn't his fault. Which, it wasn't his fault but he still felt bad.

Eli took the paper out of her hands and read it for himself. He felt queasy seeing it all so official, he didnt even know pet death certificates were a real thing. He looked at Juno again who did nothing but tug at her shirt and bite her lip.

The drive to the place they planned on having the the funeral was quiet. The only sound being the normal sounds of the car and the small whispers of Bob Dylan through the car speakers. Juno and Eli didnt utter a single word or a sniffle. It was tense yet comforting, but Juno felt nervous that she would cry if she thought about it too much.

Two lovers on a spontaneous road trip, dont leave the city due to dead cat.

Juno laughed at the thought which made Eli look at her. It wasn't funny in that way, but it was funny in the sense that it was stupid and sad and she wanted to sleep in bed and change her itchy bandage. And it didnt have her think about the fact she lost the small last bit of her father once that cat's heart stopped beating.

"What's so funny?" Eli whispered, curiosity getting the best of him.  He felt shy all of a sudden. Like he was back at home listening to Demetri's loud voice at lunch and receiving weird stares that made him cover the bottom half of his face. He suddenly thought about the teasing that Juno never saw and he covered his lip subconsciously, continuing to stare at the road. He didnt feel like that in forever, he didnt like feeling it again.

"This turned out to be not a very fun road trip," she said, looking at him shrink slightly in his seat once her eyes met his figure.

Oh. The cat. Of course she was laughing about the situation and not about Eli. . .its not about him. He felt guilty for thinking her laughs were at him and not something else but that didnt make his hand pull away from his scar.

"Im sorry," Eli said, continuing to talk before she could interrupt him. "Dont yell at me again."

She squeezed her eyes shut and winced as though she had just remembered her outburst in the car before walking into the vet. When her emotions got the best of her. "God I'm so sorry," she sighed, biting her lip. "I'm so so sorry I shouldn't have yelled at you like that."

"It's okay, you were frustrated and-"

"And that's no excuse," she interrupted. "No one should be talking to you that way."

The grave wasn't exactly six feet deep and they could only pray that the headstone wouldn't get kicked or moved in any way. It was stuck pretty deep in the ground and secured pretty well but you never know.

It was at the place where Agent Coulson took a nap and played for a little while. Their small little opening to the river that was beside the road. Eli thought it would be nice so Agent Coulson could be happy in a nice place and Juno agreed because she didnt want the smell to be in the car on their way back home. She was glad Eli still had some of his brain cells.

When she was finally buried Juno allowed a tear to fall. She sniffled and kept her hand touching the soil that was right above her cat. Another tear fell and another and soon she tried to choke back a sob. Her body felt limp and Eli brought her into his chest as she cried and cried and cried into his sweater.

"it's okay," he mumbled, rocking her slowly. "I know, I know."

Her hand gripped his sweater so hard her knuckles were white and there were so much tears that her hair was sticking to the sides of her face. . .but she had seemed to slow down her crying.

"Do you have any words to say?" Eli asked, rubbing her arm and kissing her head. "Or do you want to wait a minute."

"Wait," she hiccuped.

Eli nodded yet she couldn't see it, so he let a tear fall from his eyes.
