"Well, our goal here is very simple..." Tim listed for the last time.
The clock marked 02h00am, and there were empty pizza boxes and coca-cola cans on the kitchen island. My head was throbbing after hours of discussion and statements. I was feeling exhausted, anxious, and overall sad about this situation.
Tim sat across from me on the island, while Harry was at my side with his hand on my thigh and Taryn was off to the side. I told and retold what happened the night that Perrie was attacked. Retracing my steps from the beginning of that month when I argued with Gigi until that night - scratching every T and dotting every I. With this information, Tim built a plan for my case and tried to find a path that would benefit me. Tim had his computer opened, including two of his assistants on the call as well, they took notes and pulled up police reports.
"What we want is to get you the minimum sentence possible and/or settle everything out of court. Firstly, we know that the hotel is going to sue you for property damages. I can't get you out of that one, as it was your party, your guests fled, and someone must pay the bill and it will be you. So, you are paying for that..."
I grunted.
"I can hear my bank account screaming." I massaged my temple and felt Harry massage my leg discreetly. "Sure, I'll pay for everything. Whatever they want."
"Secondly, you are also being sued by the man who was hurt by the TV..."
"Jesus," I grumbled. "I wasn't the one who threw the fucking thing, Tim. I've told you. I told the police. Why do I get to blame?"
"Zayn, your guests fled the party as soon as they saw the police cars. Those who were arrested paid their bail, lawyered up and won't say a word. Who did indeed throw the TV and the other items will never be known!"
"That man was injured and now is stuck with medical bills up to his neck. You are lucky he is suing you for your money and not attempting at his life." Tim underlined again. I clutched my hands. I mean, I was sorry for the bloke, but I wasn't the one who nearly killed him. Why do I have to get the blame for this? "Continuing, we have the other two lawsuits which worry me the most and that can be a problem for you. 1) Perrie's parents are dead set on suing you for reckless endangerment and attempted murder..."
Harry moved in his seat next to me but kept touching me. I noticed his knee hadn't stopped since we sat down.
"That is fucking ridiculous," I whispered to myself.
"Your statement placing David in the hotel room and identifying him as Perrie's attacker is good. We suspect that her parents have no idea that David is involved, as he lawyered up well and has been giving this image of a concerned fiancé. I believe they haven't told Perrie about the lawsuit either, because I have doubts, she'd ever move against you." Tim continued.
"We talked on the phone," I added. "She sounded fine while speaking to me. Perrie doesn't know."
"If we tell the detectives that it was David and that is paired with the information they have, the lawsuit against you will lose strength and there's room for doubt." Tim continued. "We will work to change the focus from you to David. You are not to blame. David is. He is a menace to Perrie. Not you. We will need other stories or moments you might have where he was violent towards you or Perrie. We want to paint a picture that this attack could've happened at your party or in the middle of the street."
"Doubt and misdirection. David is the target, not you." Tim underlined. I nodded feeling the light ahead of the tunnel. "2) On the last level, what we have is also concerning, as there were copious amounts of drugs that have no owner."
