Yes I'm crying. I played the song above on repeat while writing this I suggest playing it while reading it.
As for context.....if you know, you know.
Don't worry I made myself cry.
————————
He'd stumbled into this room by accident. But...the scene within shattered his soul. Sammy lay propped against the wall, ink oozing from a wound in his chest. The prophet's breathing was labored, and at a glance Norman knew that it wasn't long before the prophet drew his final breaths.
So he gathered all the courage he could muster and knelt next to Sammy, cradling him in his arms. Without a face, he couldn't cry- that was a luxury he didn't have. Not anymore at least.
Sammy shivered and shook in his arms, grasping at Norman. Fear and panic was evident, and Norman figured there was only one way to help calm the prophet.
The cartoon itself didn't play; but soon Alice Angel, as voiced by Susie Campbell, began singing a comforting tune.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine."
The words had a calming effect on the former prophet, who reached up and hugged Norman weakly.
"You make me happy when skies are grey."
Eventually, the prophet gathered enough strength to join Alice's song.
"You'll never know, dear, how much I love you."
Neither of them could deny that Sammy's strength was quickly draining, but the stubborn prophet continued to sing.
"Please don't take my sunshine away."
As the song came to the next bit, Sammy's arms fell away from the projectionist, and his breathing became more and more labored.
"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping,"
Norman shook as Sammy's voice slowly died away.
"I dreamed I held you in my arms."
The prophet's body went completely limp at the end of the verse, leaving only Alice's voice filling the quiet room.
"But when I woke up, I was mistaken."
None of this seemed real. He'd lost Sammy dozens of times before in the loops. But the body didn't dissolve into a puddle- he wouldn't be seeing Sammy again anytime soon.
"So I hung my head and cried."
But he wasn't allowed to cry. Not in this form, at least. Still, all his grief and sorrow bubbled over.
So he screamed.
Still, Alice continued her song.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine."
The song continued as Morbius and Tommy rushed in to find the body.
"You make me happy when skies are grey."
Even as he destroyed his own lab in a fit of grievous rage, the song continued to haunt him.
"You'll never know, dear, how much I love you."
His soul hurt. His body hurt. But he was still here. Acting on autopilot, he went to the trial as normal. Yet his emotions remained on the boiling point, and for all he knew, his future had nothing but storms ahead.
"Please don't take my sunshine away."
