Give Me Strength

Of softened words and shattered shields,
A frozen sword this dark night yields.
In the freezing rains and hailing storms,
A broken heart forlornly morns.

Finding no solace in the petty words,
Dead lies purr from the mouths of curs.
Shimmering lights that have no depth,
No way of seeing length or breadth.

To not be pulled by needy hands,
Guilty words or shifting sands,
But rather walk willingly by Your side,
Not tied down and dragged behind.

As a prisoner of this place,
Safe, but still I hide my face.
In fear I never venture out the walls,
Though the wilderness outside calls.

So give me strength to break these chains,
To grit my way through these birthing pains,
For though the day must end in strife,
Each death will usher in new life
