Sleepless Horses

Sleep does not come easy
I hardly ever rest
When I do it's in fits and starts
And I never catch my breath

I am dragged on every side
From left to the brightest right
And because I no longer have a say
The enemy horses fight

One wishes to grant me power and pleasure
The other wealth and dreams
And though I in fact do know better
I cannot tone out their screams

I know one is right and the other gone
The first is the last and best
But I still am tied to the leftest horse
And never see any rest

I know I have a knife
To cut the cord and ride the right steed
More time is all I wish to take
And sleep is what I need
