Chapter Forty-FourI'm looking at my reflection in the mirror as I admire my graduation gown. I'm ready for this. I'm ready to grow out of immaturity to maturity. I'm ready to grow more often and move on in life as a soldier.
I'm ready to start a new life and be somebody mom will not be disappointed of. I'm so sick of seventeen, where's my fucking teenage dream? I will enjoy my youth though and I'm gonna cry when life kicks me In the ass again and again. That's what life is all about. Always ready to teach you hard core lessons.
I look very beautiful this morning. I'm not wearing a dress or putting on heels just like every other girl does on graduation but I'm in Nike sneakers. I have pretty stylish Erykah Badu pants on and I designed them myself. They have some Jaden Smith, SZA and Ariana Grande touches to them.
My hair is styled up in an Afro and I have baddie earrings on. I just look good,y'all! I lightly smile at my reflection and I hear mom suddenly speak,
"You look so beautiful. Dad would be so proud of you,Kabwe."
I'm startled and turn to see her standing by the door and I hold my chest to hear my rapidly beating heart from the sudden mom figure on my door.
She chuckles.
She also looks very gorgeous herself. Mom is ready to escort me to school and see me get a scholarship that will define and design me for the greater.
"Thank you mom. Well,I couldn't have done this without you and Lubemba. You guys are my guidance."
I walk up to my mother and embrace her.
"I'm so proud of you,Kaka," she says quite emotional and I look at her and cup her cheeks.
"You look too beautiful to start crying. I will always make you proud and I really love you mom," I tell her and she kisses my forehead.
"I love you forever. You're my baby and nothings ever gonna change," she says embracing me tighter and swaying me side to side. I laugh.
"I'll get messy. You startled me ready to have my gown look wrinkled and stuff," I tell her and she lets go of me.
"Sorry, baby. Let's go get that scholarship," Mom says and I grab my phone and puppy inspired purse and we head out of my room.
Cameron would be so happy for me right now if he had the chance to come and see me graduate but who am I kidding? We are just a lie.
But he would be standing in the crowd applauding and shouting out my name because he'd be proud of me. He'd be cheering so loud that it's the only voice I'd hear but sadly he won't be around no matter how hard I try to envision it all.
