Chapter 14

Hogans POV: (oooooh)

I was fixing my dress shirt in the mirror and let out a sigh when I saw the picture of Mary and I on our wedding day. The amount of dates I've been on since she died you could count on one hand. I couldn't be around woman without being reminded of how much I missed her.

The only people I surrounded myself with were twenty year olds and a few of my buddies from the army. It's kind of sad how I only hang out with twenty year olds and a few teenagers at work. I'm changing that tonight I'm going on a date with a beautiful woman named Eleanor Daniels. My friend Leroy had set me up with her.

I got into my car and drove to the address she had sent me. I pulled into the driveway and knocked on her door.

"Hi Jack" she smiled when she opened the door. It was odd hearing someone call me Jack I was so used to Hogan.

"Hi Eleanor" I smiled

"I'm gonna grab my purse and I'll be right back" she said walking into the house.

I walked in and looked around at the photos on the wall. There was one of her with a young boy and girl. It looked like an old photo. Next to that one was a black and white photo of a man in a Navy uniform.

"Ready" she said

"If you are" I said opening the door for her. She locked the door and I opened the car door for her.

We pulled up to the restaurant I had made reservations in and went inside. We were in deep conversation after ordering our food.

"Do you have kids?" She asked

"No but Amelia this girl I worked with I've known since she was 15 and kind of became a dad to her and her 'older brother' Ronnie" I answered using air quotes around older brother.

"Do you" I asked

"Ya I have a son Brandon but he lives in London" she smiled

"Wow that's far"

"Ya we weren't really that close while he was growing up. He was really quite and when he turned 18 he left to London" she said sadly

"I'm sorry" I said reaching for her hand

"It's not your fault Jack so what about Amelia and Ronnie" she asked interested.

"Amelia is 18 and just moved to Baltimore with her boyfriend Josh and Ronnie is 28 and lives in Miami" I said with a smile

"Wow you guys seem close" she said with a sad smile

"I guess I kind of took Amelia under my wing when her mom kicked her out"

"What about her brother"

"They aren't actually related Ronnie was like a big brother to her when she was younger and they call each other brother and sister a lot. Ronnie would stay at my place a lot when he would get in trouble with his old roommate" I laughed

"You seem like a great guy Jack" she said taking a sip of her wine

"I guess in some ways I am" I shrugged

We ate our food and were in conversation when I heard someone yell behind me.

"Hogan"

It was Ronnie he came rushing over and squatted down next to our table.

"Eleanor this is Ronnie" I said introducing the two

"It's nice to meet you Ronnie. Jack has told me a lot about you" Eleanor smiled

"Aw you talk about me that's so sweet" Ronnie laughed kissing my cheek

"What are you doing here Ronnie" I grumbled whipping my cheek

"I'm about to go to Baltimore to surprise the love birds" he smiled

"That's always fun" I said

"Hold on one second" he said answering his phone

His words sounded frantic and a worried expression came across his face.

"What happened?" He asked

"Ya he is but I think it will be fine just call him he's the only one she will listen to I'm getting on a plane to see you guys in like 15 minutes" he rushed.

"Ronnie what the hell" I asked

"Ahme is having a panic attack and Josh can't get her to snap out of it" Ronnie said "I told him to call you since she only listens to you" he said rubbing his neck

"Ok I'm so sorry Eleanor" I said looking over at her

"It's fine you can take me home family first" she said putting her purse on her shoulder

"Thanks you so much for understanding Eleanor" I said paying the bill and leaving it on the table.

We left the restaurant and I dropped her off at home. On the way back to my house Josh called me. I told him I would Skype him the second I got home.

I ran into the house and turned in my laptop and Skyped them. Amelia was on Josh's lap. Josh was crying into her shoulder.

"Amelia it's me Hogan" I said she was still looking at the wall across from her.

"You are ok. I'm okay. Josh is ok. Ronnie and everyone else is ok. Tell me what's wrong sunshine"

She looked into the camera and then quickly turned away again.

"Hey Josh could you go into the other room" I said softly

"Uh ya" he said getting up and kissing Amelia's cheek

"What's wrong sunshine" I said

"Everything" she said in a raspy voice

"Everything is fine. You are in the city of your dreams with your man and Jessa."

"So much is happening at once" she sighed

"What happened"

"You were on a date, Ronnie has a girlfriend, my best friends live in different states, I moved to freaking Baltimore and Josh and I got engaged. It seems like everything is happening at once" she said tears welling up in her eyes.

"I know sunshine but that's how the world works. The world is turning and shit is happening and sometimes it feels like it's all at once but in reality it's been going on for a while.Sophia and Ronnie have been dating for 3 weeks. I've been talking to Eleanor for a month. You've been wanting to move to Baltimore your whole life" I said trying to cheer her up

"Thanks dad" she sighed "im such a baby" she said whipping her tears away

"No you're not you are just a human with emotions now you guy talk to that boy of yours" I smiled at her

"I love you" she said

"Love you too sunshine" I said and hang up.
