Don’t Let Go
Chapter Twelve
I shoved the last of my clothes in my backpack hitching it over my shoulder and grabbed my sleeping bag. I brought the sleeping bag just in case but I haven’t needed to use it yet. I tugged my hair in a ponytail and grabbed my wallet from the wooden bedside table.
Sammi popped her head through the door “You ready?” I nodded slipping on my glasses following her out of the apartment. We handed the key over to the lady at the counter and she bid us goodbye and a safe journey.
“Where are the guys?” I asked
“They’re just getting the car” she answered smacking her brightly red painted lips.
I bit my lip nodding while nervously looking down the road for any sign of the beaten up car. “Where to next?” I asked hoping to make some conversation to calm my nerves.
“Tennessee” she answered simply, she smirked at me. “Calm down he’ll probably act normal.”
“How do you know?” I shot back.
She deadpanned me. “He’s a guy; there are only two things a guy would do in the situation. He will either ignore you or act as if nothing happen.” I sighed knowing she was right.
Just then we saw Justin driving up the road, Mitch sitting in the passenger seat looking unhappy. He’s arms are folded against his broad chest, a dark cowboy hat rested at the top of his head and from what I could see he was wearing a white shirt. As always he looked fantastic. I was a tiny bit self-conscious since I threw on the first thing I saw which was navy pants and a black shirt which was tucked in at the front. I tugged my ponytail thankful that the sunglasses were covering most of face.
Sammi lead the way by hoping in the car and gave a kiss to Justin leaving his lips tinted from her lipstick. I mumbled a ‘hi’ while I got in the car. I glanced up and noticed Mitch was looking at me through the rear-view mirror but turned his head back to the front when he saw I was looking.
“I’m starving” Sammi said patting her flat stomach. “Where are we going to eat?” she asked twirling her hair when she got Justin’s attention.
“We’ll just go to the diner” he shrugged smirking at her; he shot me a small smile. “Is that alright?” he asked me.
“Of course” I said grinning at him.
“What about you Mitch?” Justin said turning his head to him.
“Whatever” he shrugged looking out his window. Justin sent me an apologetic smile. I shook my head sending him a reassuring smile; it’s not his fault it’s mine.
I leaned my head against the window looking out at the passing houses. I never thought of myself as beautiful, I was pretty but that was as far as I would complement myself but when I was with Mitch he made me beautiful. If I said this out loud it would sound cheesy but it was true.
