━chapter eighteen,
❝dad❞
『R E G I N A』☆
━━━For the first time in Regina's memory, she feels almost perfectly happy.
Sure, there is that little thing of the world ending in just a few days ━ and her father on his deathbed (though she tries not to think about that) ━ but right now, in this very moment in time, she and her friends are alive, and she is with Hazel Levesque.
They had been trying to keep it on the low, which had been quite easy, considering they were usually rather touchy with each other. Regina told Percy and Annabeth, and both of them supported her, naturally (and Percy had nearly shot through the roof screaming in joy when he'd heard the news; Annabeth had smiled knowingly and kissed her on the forehead). Regina is most nervous to tell Romeo and Valentina.
Hazel and Regina had talked about it, and Hazel had told her that she would gladly come out, but only when Regina was ready to, as well. She didn't mind keeping it a secret (and Regina loved her a thousand times more after this conversation) if that's what made her feel most comfortable.
Though she knows she shouldn't be afraid ━ they are her family, after all. And they'd support her. She knows they would!
She decides a day or so after first kissing Hazel, she would tell them the next morning.
She wakes on her side with Hazel's arms wrapped around her, legs tangled with hers, and the daughter of Pluto's head resting in the crook of her neck. Regina smiles, feeling a strange new warmth in her heart that she has not felt in a long time ━ happiness. And though nerves settled in her stomach at the thought of telling Romeo and Val today, she links her fingers with Hazel's and thinks, It's going to be okay. She knows it.
But that morning during breakfast, something odd occurs.
Regina is calmly picking at her meal when Valentina walks in. The daughter of Minerva puts her fork down as her cousin walks by, who stops momentarily to lean down to kiss her on the head, saying, "Good morning, my lovely," then skips to her chair and starts off a conversation with Piper. Hazel reaches under the table and grabs Regina's hand, squeezing it comfortingly.
You got this.
Regina nods. I got this.
The last person to arrive for breakfast is Romeo, who has bags under his eyes, which stands out firmly against his pale skin. His hair is a bit of a mess. He wears a dark pair of sweatpants and a black hoodie, pulling the sleeves down over his wrists.
