chapter nineteen,
❝a talk with the god of prophecy!
V A L E N T I N A

━━━Valentina had been back as the blonde woman, hunting a boar with a group of male hunters. They had engaged in a fight with the ravenous beast ━ an abnormally large, bloodthirsty boar ━ and several men were slaughtered right before Valentina's very eyes. But she had managed to hit the boar, the first person to, and blood splattered the ground.

When the boar was finally killed, a man gave her the skin. She wrapped it around herself and, for the first time in a long time, smiled.

     Then she wakes.

At that very moment, Romeo barges through her door.

Sweat dripping down his face, he says, "Uncle Julius is dead."

Just as he says it, there is a scream from the door over ━ a familiar voice letting out a cry, and though it's difficult to make out, Valentina could have sworn she had said, "Ajax!" Hearing sobs break through the girl's voice, a rush of panic hits Valentina and she throws the covers off of herself and follows Romeo out the door.

He opens Regina's door and there Valentina sees the daughter of Minerva breaking down in sobs and cries, hunched over as Hazel rubs her back and tries to say her name. Romeo pauses in the doorway, but Valentina pushes past him and immediately goes to comfort her cousin.

     Regina keeps mumbling "Dad."

     Valentina locks eyes with Romeo.

And the grief hits Valentina. She may not have known her uncle very well ━ nor did she like him very much ━ but a member of her family was dead. And for that she wanted to break down into tears just like Regina... for Regina.

She wonders what her own father is doing right now. Has he called Aunt Flavia? Has he let her know of the terrible news? Are they grieving? Are they already planning the funeral? Will Valentina even be able to make it to her uncle's funeral?

Regina grasps onto Valentina and clutches her night shirt. The daughter of Venus runs her hand through her cousin's hair and whispers, "I got you. I got you. It's okay, sweetie."

Valentina sees Romeo storm out of the room. She swears she hears someone sob down the hallway and a door slam shut. Then she sees a few more figures crowding the hallway.
