R O M E O

━━━At the end of the hall stands a walnut door with a bronze plaque:

ASCLEPIUS
MD, DMD, DME, DC, DVS, FAAN, OMG, EMT, TTYL, FRCP, ME, IOU, OD, OT, PHARMD, BAMF, RN, PHD, INC, SMH...

There may have been acronyms, but Romeo's head had exploded by that point.

     Piper knocks. "Dr. Asclepius?"

The door flies open. The man inside has a kindly smile, crinkles around his eyes, short brown hair, and a well-trimmed beard. He wears a white lab coat over a business suit and a stethoscope around his neck. He also holds a polished black staff with a live green python coiled around it.

     "Hello!" says the god.

"Doctor." Piper's smile is so warm that it could've melted a Boread; it certainly melts Romeo's heart. "We'd be so grateful for your help. We need the physician's cure."

Romeo isn't her target, but Piper's charm-speak washes over him irresistibly. He would've done anything to get her that cure. He would've gone to medical school, got twelve different doctorate degrees, and bought a large green python. He even moves ━ he lifts his foot to take a step toward the god, to grab the god's collar and shake him, to demand the physician's cure ━ but Jason grabs his arm and gives him a look, Snap out of it.

Asclepius puts his hand over his heart. "Oh, my dear, I would be delighted to help."

Piper's smile wavers. "You would...? I mean, of course you would! Thank you."

     "Come in! Come in!"

The guy is so nice that Romeo figures his office would be full of torture devices, but it looks like a normal doctor's office: a big maple desk, bookshelves stuffed with medical books, and some plastic organ models. Romeo remembers a distant memory: when he and his cousins were small, they had visited his uncle Marcel's office. Regina had somehow turned the plastic organ model into the anatomy of the Minotaur and scared Valentina shitless. And Uncle Marcel kept it.

Life had been simpler back then.

Asclepius takes the big comfy doctor's chair and lays his staff and serpent across his desk. "Please, sit."
