"I mean she's super annoying and messes up everything, I swear!  With her little round ears and taunting brown eyes...".  After sitting here on the steps of the library for about an hour and listening to her rant about some girl you'd think I'd be crazy to stay here this long, except Amity was my best friend and I knew she'd do the same thing for me if I needed it.  The only annoying thing here was her obliviousness to her own feelings.

"And you're sure you don't like this girl?" I questioned with a raise of my eyebrow.  A light blush coated her shocked face, answering my question even if her words were a lie.

"Absolutely not!  She's a menace," she retorted, an offended look crossing her flustered expression.  She couldn't fool me though, not like how she was fooling herself.

"Yeah but she could be your menace," I winked.  Amity's face exploded into an even deeper shade of red, her hands flying up to cover her face in embarrassment.  I chuckled at her reaction knowing I was once again right.  "There's nothing to be ashamed of little Mittens, she sounds like a cool girl and I fully support."

Amity peeked from behind her fingers.  At times she reminded me strongly of a cat.  She was rough around the edges at times but when you coaxed her out, she was really a little sweetie and I should know after dedicating years to guiding her out of her shell.

"And I appreciate that but there's a few small details I haven't told you," she muttered, an ashamed look crossing her face.  I leaned in, eager to hear the detail she happened to not spill in the last hour.  She fidgeted with her hands in her lap, chewing her lip nervously.  "I haven't been the nicest to her and she's friends with Willow so she's probably heard some other stuff about me," Amity frowned, her arms reaching to hold her knees.

She looked so vulnerable that I bit back any sarcastic retorts or jokes.  I wasn't fully sure about the Willow-Amity thing but I knew Willow enough to trust she wouldn't go around gossiping about an old friend.

"There's always a chance to change things, Amity, you don't have to keep up this act at school if you feel it's only driving people away.  Especially if you want the human to like you, don't be afraid to be yourself," I explained, offering a gentle pat on her back.  She squinted at the ground in deep thought, silent moments stretching between us.  She slumped a little further.

"What if I'm not sure about who I am?" she whispered tentatively.  I sighed, shaking my head at the prospect.  This poor girl was a whole mess but as her best friend I knew how to make her feel better.  I wanted her to be happy with this girl, it was about time little Mittens was happy in general.

"If only you could see yourself how I see you.  You're insanely cool, witty and sarcastic with a whole lot of humor.  When you get embarrassed you turn into this cute little cat and when you're angry you're like a puppy.  Your abomination skills are incredibly braggable, and I do brag about you by the way, you're strong and don't let anything knock you down," I stood excitedly.  She looked up at me, shocked by the compliments.  I offered my hand down to her, taking her hand as I pulled her to her feet.

"This human is going to be blown away by you, so show her how awesome you are when you let your walls down.  Don't be afraid to jump in Mittens."  I patted her head tenderly.  A small smile pulled at the corners of her lips, signaling I had done a job well done.

"Thank you.  It might take me a bit but I guess I do want things to work out with her," she mumbled shyly.  My own smile stretched across my face.  My arm linked around hers, pulling her down the steps of the library.  "Wait where are we going?"  I tilted my head to her mischievously.

"I wanna see your little menace, Mittens!  You can't just rant to me about her for an hour and not expect me to try to find her afterwards," I smirked.  I felt her freeze by my side but when I looked over a small blush was adorning her face again.  "Wow, you're like a love sick puppy, your human is going to love you."
