"I expected this to be more fun."  I sighed out of boredom as I followed behind the duo.  Lilith flashed me a pitiful smile over her shoulder as she adjusted her glasses upon her nose.  Luz let out a gasp as she whirled around to face me, stopping me in my tracks.

"We're in the past!  We get to witness history in the making!  How could you call this boring?" Luz accused me with shock.  I only offered a shrug.  When I agreed to tag along to find the time pools, I expected something exciting and dangerous but this was pretty tame.  The boiling isles has seen more action in our regular time period than this slow paced time seemed to see.

"I was just expecting...a bit more I guess.  It doesn't help that I've been around for a while now," I pointed out.  Luz's shoulders sagged as she recognized my reasoning.  As a near immortal being that came from who knows where, I've been around for a lot longer than any other demon has been.  I've seen plenty of things far before this time.

It wasn't until a couple centuries ago that I was spelled to sleep until recently when Luz had managed to wake me...by accident of course but I didn't mind.  I wasn't awake for this time period; I clearly didn't miss much.

"I keep forgetting you're practically immortal.  You're lucky to look so young for someone who's been around since the Titans.  You don't look much younger than me," Lilith chuckled softly.  I gave her a smile when she glanced over her shoulder again.  Being surrounded by others was strange after so long spent in solitude and yet the small group that found me made me feel cared for.

A shout from around the corner broke the gentle atmosphere as deep mocking laughter exploded nearby.  A smaller voice called out, clearly in distress.  Without wasting a moment, all of us ran to peek around the corner down the street to find trouble.

Two large demons stood over a man, a book being thrown between the two over the guy's head mockingly.  Luz gasped right as I spotted the same feature.  The smaller man's ears were rounded unlike usual witches.  He was clearly Philip Wittebane, the same man Luz had dragged me here for in the first place.

I didn't focus on what he was saying but his accent was older, something I didn't hear much anymore ever since I woke up.  His deep brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail and when he turned towards one of the demons, I spotted his bright blue eyes.  With his long coat and trousers, he looked nice.

One of the demons struck out, knocking the human to the ground harshly as Philip pleaded.  The other demon held the book they were tossing around up as a small flame lit underneath it.  It wasn't until a path of ice shot out and knocked the book away that I woke from my strange trance to follow as Luz stepped out to defend her fellow human.

"That doesn't belong to you," Luz pointed with a frown.  She wasn't all that scary by herself but the demons still backed off anyways, leaving us otherwise alone.  Clearly they didn't want to fight a child and who could blame them?

As Luz started picking up stray papers that had fallen out of the journal, I made my way to Philip who had taken on a scowl.  I stood over him with my hand out, offering assistance considering I had noticed before that he had a bad leg.  His eyes traveled up my body before widening when they reached my face.  When his eyes locked with mine, I felt a shiver run down my spine.

"My my, I wasn't aware that angels dwelled among the demons," Philip whispered with wide eyes.  My face warmed instantly at his flattering remark.  His hand slid into mine as I hauled him up.  He stumbled a bit as one of my hands held him firmly up by the shoulders.  Our sides pressed in close as my thoughts strayed.

"What's this?" Luz wondered aloud as she held up some papers.  Philip's scowl returned as he wobbled over to her to snatch the book away.  I frowned at his sudden hostile behavior considering he was just being flirty with me.  I could've imagined it all I guess.

"That's private.  I might not have a bile sac but I do have dignity," he scoffed, shoving his journal into his satchel without further hesitation.  I crossed my arms at his attitude towards Luz.  When he turned away to leave, a part of me was disappointed and the other part of me wanted him gone.

"Wait!  I've heard of your exploits..." Luz trailed off, attempting to get him to stay and talk for a bit.  While she spoke, his eyes glanced at me.  Each time they did, his expression softened a bit further.  It both pissed me off and made this other strange feeling curl in my chest.

"No."  Philip didn't say anything else as he turned to walk off, both Luz and I in shock at his abrupt answer.  Luz began calling out for him to talk to her as she offered various bribes.  When she blurted that she'd help him find the Collector, he looked over his shoulder with interest.  Deciding to help Luz out, I pitched in.

"I wouldn't mind assisting as well.  Only if you're up to it, Philip," I smirked.  A soft blush spread across his face as a small smile twitched onto his face.  There was no way I was imagining it now.  He fiddled with the strap of his satchel before giving a nod.

"I suppose you could come along.  Who am I to deny an angel?" he shrugged casually though his face still burned bright.  Lilith, who'd been quiet the whole time let out a clap of delight as Luz shouted in victory.  I walked towards Philip, giving him a wink that made him immediately flustered.

"Show the way then.  I'll follow your lead," I smiled.  He audibly gulped before ushering us along as he hobbled down the street.  This was sure to be an interesting adventure now, far more exciting than before.
