Infiltrating the annual castle masquerade ball was the easy part.  It didn't take much to dress as a noble, my suit was fashion forward and regal enough to distract the guards.  If my clothes didn't blind them to the truth then my jewels sure did.  Sparkly rings and chains could lull anyone to complacency.

I held my head high to adopt the air of someone who saw themselves as greater than others, my pride billowing around me.  No one could doubt that I belonged here.  I mentally thanked all the years of people watching for providing me with my perfect disguise.

As I strode away from the guards to a crowded corner of the ballroom, my fingers came up to adjust my mask.  It, like my whole outfit, radiated elegance, dark coloring speckled with gold flecks that shimmered when I walked.  I found the color choice ironic considering the reason I was here in the first place.

My hidden eyes scanned the area in search of my companion.  There were an assortment of wealthy witches and minimal demons gliding across the floor.  It was a smart choice to tuck my tail away based on the rarity of my particular species present, otherwise it would've been easier to get caught.  Luckily for me, despite my tail, I looked the same as any other witch.

A flash of gold suddenly dragged my attention towards the dance floor.  Across the way stood a familiar figure clad in a golden suit with his usual guard mask over his face, obstructing his features.  Without seeing his face, I still knew who it was as they stared at me across the ballroom.  He took a step into the ongoing dance, quickly being swept away by a cheery demon.  I chuckled to myself before stepping into the ring of swaying bodies as well.

A partner was immediately assigned to me, a pretty looking witch who seemed to be having a wonderful time.  I spun her around with a flourish, her laughter infectious as I smiled.  My eyes couldn't help but stray to where I wanted to be, the golden guard being flanked by two demons now who had linked arms with him.  The sight was comical, my companion clearly not enjoying it as much as his dancing partners did.

There was a switch in partners, the golden guard moving towards me again before a tall witch took his hand.  I found myself with a pleasant yet shy demon who was more of a shuffler than a sweeper.  Trying to guide them through the steps gently, their face flushed causing me to laugh gently.

Another switch and yet the golden guard still wasn't in my arms.  My smile never faltered, however, as I spun and clapped with a stranger.  I was going to at least make this experience pleasurable for my dancing partners.  It was the least I could do for sneaking in here in the first place.

"Ah, my feet hurt.  The last demon wouldn't stop stepping on my toes," a familiar voice whined out.  I twirled around to find the golden guard standing before me.  He had an irritated frown but his lifted shoulders gave away the fun he had.

"You just need the right partner," I chuckled, moving my hands to grab his waist.  His hands flew up to his sides like he was afraid to touch me, his blush moving down his neck.  Laughing softly, I guided one of his hands to my shoulder, taking the other in my gentle hold.  "May I have this dance?"

"I didn't just dance with a bunch of strangers to tell you no," he stated with his usual snarkiness.  I pulled him closer, our chests touching before swaying our bodies together.  He stepped in rhythm with me and I avoided stepping on his already sore toes.  I released his hip to encourage him to spin which he did reluctantly before pushing back against my body.

Warmth pressed through the fabrics of our suits, keeping us content and peaceful.  The golden guard's blush seemed to be dying down and so I dipped him slowly to make the color flare up again.  It made me wish that his mask was off so I could see his flustered expression.

"Hunter," I whispered in his ear after pulling him upright again.  I felt the shiver that ran down his spine.  He pulled back to look at me but his eyes were still hidden.  I needed to see him, to actually see him.

"To the gardens," he abruptly stated, understanding what I silently asked.  His hand clutched mine as he turned to guide us away from the dance floor.  His grip was firm and made my heart beat speed up.

The closer we got to our destination, the more noise died out and the better I could breathe.  I hadn't realized how suffocating the ballroom had been until we were out of the castle.  The smell of roses filled my nose as I inhaled the fresh air.

Hunter didn't stop pulling me until we made it to the fountain in the center of it all.  It provided plenty of privacy and was a better spot to be without prying eyes.  Our masks were both pulled off as we took a moment to stare at each other.  The sound of rushing water filled my ears, the moonlights bathing us in its embrace.

"I keep forgetting how beautiful you are," I whispered with a soft smile.  Hunter's face once again flared up as I chuckled softly, being able to see his flustered expression.  My hands found his waist again, pulling his body to mine as we began to sway again.

It was slower than the fast paced partner dancing in the castle, more sensual and intimate.  Especially in the moonlights, I couldn't help myself from falling farther.  If I wasn't utterly doomed before, I surely was now but I didn't mind as much as I had thought with one look at Hunter's bright eyes.

His hands were now tangled in my hair with his forehead resting on mine.  His lips were so close, I could feel each shaky breath he exhaled.  I waited patiently for him to move at his own pace though I didn't need to wait much longer.

His lips were soft on mine, unsure and slightly trembling but I loved it...loved him.  Pushing against him gently as we rocked, he hummed wistfully.  The sensation caused shivers to shoot through my body, my hands squeezing his waist carefully.

"So I guess this means we're not returning to the party," I smirked.  Hunter had his eyes squeezed shut with his face a bright crimson.  He panted softly, his heartbeat thrumming against my chest.  He only shook his head before connecting our lips again.
