"Wendy, you need to spend some time outside!" Mrs. Testaburger insisted.

"No...I can't," Wendy responded, voice shaking.

"Wendy, you've been staying inside the house for days. It's about time you got some fresh air. It could help you out," said her mother.

Wendy shook her head.

She spent all of her time inside after school and on the weekends, too afraid to go outside...and to see the trees...they only brought back the painful memories.

"Wendy! It's been six days!" her mother shouted.

                             * * *

Wendy took a few shaky steps outside, trying her best to avert eye contact from any trees nearby.

She came to a stop when she noticed something. A kid...

...Kyle!

He was sitting down in the snow across the road.

Wendy ran across the road and approached him.

She almost let out a gasp when she noticed the huge slope in front of them. She sat down carefully and made sure not to slip and fall in.

"Hey, Kyle," she greeted.

Kyle looked at her.

"Oh, hey, Wendy," he said.

"Are...Are you feeling alright?" she asked.

Kyle looked down and sighed. "...Honestly...no. Nothing is. Stan is dead, it's all my fault, he'd still be here if I hadn't told him to go near that stupid tree, Annie and a bunch of other kids hate me, and no matter how much my family reassures me, I know it truly is my fault," he said.

Wendy sympathetically reached out and put her hand on his shoulder.

"It's not your fault. You didn't know it would happen. Annie and the others are just grieving...we're all grieving..." she said.

She looked down.

Tears started to form in her eyes.

"I...I miss him..." said Wendy sadly, voice cracking.

"I miss him too," said Kyle dully.

Wendy swallowed down a lump in her throat.

"E...Everytime I try to rest, all I can see is..." she trailed off, and suddenly, it burned into her.

Stan's screams. The kids' screams. The tree. Blood.

She let out a terrified gasp.

Kyle was now looking at her, wide eyed.

Everything was back to normal now.

Wendy shook.

"I...I'm sorry..." she said.

"No...I'm the one that's sorry in the end...but nothing I've done will make up..." said Kyle sadly, tears forming.

Wendy tried to reassure him that it was okay, that it was never his fault, but suddenly, Kyle stood up.

"But it's okay. I know a way to fix everything," he said.
