Chapter Forty-One

Ike trudged along slowly, staying close to his parents, as he, them, and the others adults trekked through the grass.

This "maze" felt so foreboding, yet nothing had happened yet. Not even those dangerous flowers that had tried to attack the cops before.

Every hedge had flowers sprouting on them, except smaller than the ones at the entrance.

"Alright everybody, remember to stay behind me," said Officer Barbrady as he led the way.

"Kyle?" called Sheila.

"Yes?" asked Kyle S.

"Not you, Kyle A," said Sheila.

"Oh," responded Kyle S.

"Eric? Shelley?" called Liane.

"Kenny? Kenny?" called Carol McCormick.

"Kevin? Karen?" called Stuart McCormick.

"Butters! Please come out! We promise we'll only ground you for ONE week!" called Stephen.

The parents kept on calling. And calling.

Yet no answer.

Misery pooled inside of Ike.

They were never gonna kind Kyle, were they? Or his friends.

He started to tear up. He felt like he was about to cry.

Until, suddenly...

...The sound of...well...SOME sort of walking on the grass came closer. And closer.

The parents looked towards where the sound came from. "K-Kyle?" asked Gerald hopefully.

Ike stared at the direction of the sound, hoping to see his big brother walk out with his friends. But, as it got even more closer, he realized how...off it sounded. As if, they didn't know HOW to exactly walk right.

He could've sworn he also heard some raspy breathing.

The "walking" stopped for a moment and silence came.

Everyone could only stare.

"...K...Kyle...?" was all Ike could utter.

Immediately, right after he said that, a burst of black came out, and screaming erupted.

Ike was knocked to the ground as the thing grazed past him.

Ike pushed himself up and saw in horror this...MONSTER...walking on all fours...yet looking so Humanoid...growling at the panicked adults.

"WHAT IS THAT THING!?" Sheila shouted.

"Hold on, I got this!" exclaimed Officer Barbrady as he took out his gun. He began shooting at the Monster.

Two shots BAMMED into the Monster, and a furious yet pained Monstrous scream erupted from it. 

It leapt at Officer Barbrady and pinned him roughly to the ground, almost knocking the wind out of him.

Ike backed away in terror as the Monster growled at the police officer.

Immediately, Liane grabbed a stick nearby and thrust it into the Monster.

The Monster let out another one of those damned, horrid, furious and pain mixed screams.

But it didn't stumble. Didn't even flinch, no matter how pained it sounded.

It just leapt at Liane next with the same, Monstrous gaze of pure fury and bloodshed.

"Liane, look out!" but Carol's scream came too late.

The Monster bit into Liane's shoulder, as a scream of pain erupted from her.

Carol hauled the Monster off and threw it to the ground. The Monster got up and snarled.

Ike could now see the disgusting, nasty wound left on Liane's shoulder.

The Monster lunged at Carol and headbutted her, causing her to collide into Liane, sending them both to the ground.

When Stuart tried to intervene, the Monster simply yanked him by the hand with their jaws and threw them away.

Gerald quickly ran forwards and yanked the stick out of the Monster, causing to let out another scream of fury and pain.

It turned to Gerald, growling.

"Uh-oh..." Gerald uttered before the Monster leapt at him.

"DAD!" shouted Ike as the Monster pinned his father to the ground.

Thinking fast, Gerald thrust the stick up and the Monster bit down into it, tugging and trying to break through it.

Sheila quickly ran forwards and kicked the Monster.

But this time, the Monster simply just looked at Sheila, still on top of Gerald, and then lunged for her.

"MOM!" shouted Ike as the Monster bit into Sheila's leg and a scream of pain came out of her.

The Monster turned their attention to Ike, and so did Sheila a few moments later.

When a wide, menacing smile creeped across the Monster's face, Ike's whole emotions turned to horror and dread.

The Monster tried to lunge forward, but Sheila grabbed it.

"IKE! RUN!" she screamed.

Ike immediately took off running like she wanted him to, and just as he did that, he heard roar and knew that they had escaped Sheila and were now chasing him.
