Chapter 6: Boot Camp

"Wake up!" A voice shouts at them.

Heejin grumbles.

"Come on! Chop chop everyone!"

A bright light blinds her eyes.

What time is it?

She fumbles for her glasses on the side of her bed and slides them on her nose. As her eyes adjust to the brightness of the light, she wraps her disheveled hair into a messy bun and pulls herself out of her bed. She slips on her bunny slippers.

She looks around, watching everyone rub their puffy eyes.

"What is going on," Jungeun mumbles, her pink hair messily flowing over her monkey pajamas.

"Everybody up!" The voice shouts again.

This time Heejin recognizes it.

Haseul.

"Why are you doing this Haseul?" She hears Hyunjin yell from the other room.

"Gotta practice today!"

Everyone heads toward the living room.

Haseul stands there, smiling.

"Let's train today!"

Jinsoul's next to her. She stretches her arms out and yawns.

"You guys normally do this?" She whispers.

Heejin responds, her eyes almost fully closed from the light, "Just got here a week ago. Never seen this before."

"Ok, get dressed, brush your teeth, and then we'll set sail to train today!" Haseul says.

"When did this become a military camp," Hyunjin mumbles.

. . .

It is like that for the next 6 days. Wake up early. Go to the warehouse. Train. Come back. Do work and study. Eat. Repeat.

Every day, Heejin trains with Hyunjin.

Over the course of those 6 days, Hyunjin has taught Heejin many different fighting moves. Each one she teaches the same way that she had when she taught Heejin the basic motion for punching.

The same long method.

With this method, they only get through 1-2 fighting moves each day.

As the sun slowly peaks out behind the mountain, they arrive at the warehouse for the 7th time.

"Ok guys! You know the drill! Same pairs as last time!" Haseul says joyfully.

Heejin walks up to the punching bag.

"So, what are you gonna teach next?" Heejin asks, still a little sleepy. She still hasn't adjusted to the new schedule yet.

"Just review. Something different."

Finally

"This time, Instead of punching the bag, punch me," Hyunjin says.

Did I hear her right?

"Punch you?"

"Yeah, give it a shot."

"What?"

"Come on. Just punch or kick whatever. It's simple."

She steps forward, hesitant. She winds up her arm and punches slowly so as to not hurt her.

Hyunjin sighs.
