Chapter Nine: The Accidental Lover

To be honest, I didn't know how Katniss got inside my room. As far as I could remember, I brought the key with me to make sure that no one would sneak inside. I made it pretty clear to everyone that my bedroom was an off-limits. Oh, and I brought the spare key with me too— just to make sure.

"Who gave you the right to come inside my bedroom without my permission?" I said and got up from the bed.

Katniss placed a hand on her hip and raised an eyebrow at me. Funny, but she was actually acting different nowadays. She just suddenly became too concerned about me. That was not the Katniss I used to know three days ago. Katniss was the last person who would actually be worried about me.

"As far as I could remember, Clarie, that's not the answer to my question," she said and crossed her arms against her chest. "Where have you been all day? We were so worried about you!"

We? Like, Mom and Dad? That, my friends, was really funny. My parents probably didn't notice that their "beloved" daughter was gone all day. They were too busy to even think of what the heck was happening in my life. To be honest, I actually got used to it already. I grew tired of waiting for them to change. Even the word itself didn't exist in their vocabulary. I used to ask myself why they treated me like that. As far as I could remember, I didn't do anything wrong when I was a little girl. In fact, I obediently followed all of their rules. They didn't let me play along with Stephanie, who lived next door. When I asked them why I couldn't— they just told me that Stephanie's parents wouldn't be pleased to know that I was playing with her. I used to think that maybe I was an adoptive child and my parents were forced to adopt me. Perhaps, my 'real' parents were criminals— and my foster parents were ashamed of my history. That thought stayed in my mind for five years.

"Look, I'm tired and I want to get some sleep," I said and walked towards the cabinet to get something comfortable to wear. "Can we just talk about this tomorrow? You should go to sleep now, Katniss. It's already late."

"I'm not going to sleep not until you tell me what's going on!" I heard Katniss said.

I looked back and raised my eyebrow. She was acting so different, which confused me a lot. My intuition told me that perhaps something was up and I was still not aware of it.

"What I did today is not your business to mind, Katniss," I said and crossed my arms against my chest. "The door is over there just incase you don't know the way out. And please, don't act like you care about me. This is my life."

Katniss was taken aback. Her eyes widened, and I had a feeling that she was not expecting that from me. Talking that way to her was actually not my nature. Trust me, I was stunned too. Those words suddenly slipped out of my mouth and it was already too late to take it all back. Believe or not, but I wasn't scared of her anymore.

"Clarie, I want you to be honest with me," she said and gulped. "Do you have a boyfriend already? You've been acting strange lately. I saw you at the garden when you were staring out at the flowers. From there, I already knew something was up."

So, the tables were turned— and I was now the one who was acting strange. Wow, that was unexpected! If I could only tell her why I was acting that way, damn I would have done that already. To be honest, I suddenly had a feeling that bringing back the old Katniss was actually not a very good idea.

"Katniss, I don't have a boyfriend, okay?" I said and rolled my eyes. "I went to Aunt Josie and we watched movies all day. There, satisfied now?"

"To be honest, no I'm not," she said and walked towards me. "Your eyes are not very good at lying, Clarie. I have a feeling you did more than that today. Come on, Clarie bear, you know you can always tell me, right?"
