Jennie
I put the coffee pot back on the warmer, adding the requested ingredients to the dark liquid in each mug, respectively. When I pick up the mugs, I notice that my hands are shaking. I quickly set the mugs back down, letting out a gust of air, wiping my hands over my jeans roughly.
I need to calm down, but after catching Lisa and Kaia together this morning...
I got used to seeing reports of Lisa hooking up with random girls, especially during her pre-rehab days. But that doesn't mean it still doesn't tear me up apart inside every time. It's just that after a while, you start to become painstakingly numb to it. But seeing it reported in some magazine versus seeing it in person with my own two eyes this time round, it hurts ten times harder. It becomes so real.
I know that Lisa isn't mine anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't love her at all. I'll always care about her. Just from a distance.
After seeing Lisa again last night, I've had this pit in my stomach full of guilt and longing. I didn't sleep at all during the night, with the look on her face and her questioning etched in my brain, playing in a painful loop every time I closed my eyes.
If only she knew why I left. If only I could just tell her.
I place my hands on the cool granite countertop of the hotel breakfast bar, resting my weight in my palms as I close my eyes, contemplating about how my life got to this point.
"Excuse me, Miss." I snap my eyes open to look at the older gentleman to my left. "May I grab the creamer, please?" He flashes me a shy smile.
"Oh, sure." I stand up straight, grabbing the two mugs of coffee that I prepared by their handles tightly, appreciating the fact that my hands aren't shaking as badly as they were a few moments ago. "Sorry about that." It's my turn to sheepishly smile, stepping out of the man's way.
"That's alright, dear." He wears a sincere smile. "You have a good day."
"Thank you. You too, sir." I flash him a quick smile before heading back upstairs, walking as steady as I can to keep the cups balanced so none of the contents spill out. My eyes are trained hard on the two cups, only shifting up far enough to make sure I'm not on anyone's heels every few seconds.
"Jennie!" I recognise Greg's cheery voice.
I fully shift my gaze up to see him walking down the hallway towards me and the cup in my hand, ironically Lisa's cup, slips from my fingers. The hot contents spill in a rush onto the tiled floor like a tsunami wave, just like the wave of emotions that hit me, with the ceramic mug shattering upon impact.
My breathing quickens, with my heart slamming in my chest. There, standing next to Greg, is none other than the man that essentially ruined my life. The crooked and manipulative man that I've grown to despise. Yang Hyun-suk.
"Jennie, are you ok?" Greg asks, with concerned eyes. He briskly strides towards me, with Hyun-suk following slowly behind him. I curse under my breath, kneeling down to pick up the broken fragments of the mug with my hands.
"Careful, don't cut yourself." Greg says, just as I nick my finger with one of the shards. "It's ok, Jennie. We'll get someone to clean it up." he reassures me softly, bending over to place a hand on my shoulder to urge me to let it go. In my line of vision, a pair of shiny, new brown loafers appear, making sure not to step in the mess that I've made. I peer up to see Hyun-suk standing over me in a pressed graphite grey coloured suit, with a forced neutral look on his face. I shakily stand up, with my body consciously taking a few steps back.
"Jennie, this is Yang Hyun-suk, Lisa Manoban's manager." Greg informs me with the information that I'm all too familiar with. "Hyun-suk, this is Jennie Kim, Kaia's PA."
