Amane is rarely drunk, putting forth her duties and her family before herself. Not even at their own wedding reception. He hasn’t seen her touch a glass nor taste a drop of the finest alcohol his family had procured. She always looked out for him, reminding him that he should have fun, connect with old friends and eat at least a portion of their gigantic cake. He hadn’t seen her take another bite since their cake cutting earlier. Their marriage may have been arranged, but they were best friends, if something was bothering her, she’d tell him.

She never really told him anything. He was the chatterbox in their friendship, she was quiet but she keeps the conversation flow smoothly with her thoughts and questions. Outside of his image of her, she was reserved to herself, fond of children and an advocate of progressive education. Arranged as it may be, it’s their wedding reception! They should be laughing without restraint, their families paid good money for this event they deserved to let go even for a short while. She proved to be stubborn, only giving him a chaste kiss here and there, a fleeting touch on his thigh or his hand.

Is she hinting something? When she stood up from her chair, she gestured him to follow her, she says something to his mother and Shiru smiled fondly at them. Strange, Amane always mentioned how her hairs would rise when she's around.

“What was that about?”

Amane’s eyes glistened with mischief and excitement, she leaned down to whisper. “I’m going to give your wedding gift from me.” She pulls him up and wraps his arms around her waist, everyone cheers when she kissed his lips. He happily returned it with a blushing smile.

“That’s the best gift I’ve ever had.”

“Oh love that’s only the ribbons to it, you haven’t opened the box.” She grabs the mic. “My dear parents, and parents in law, my lovely friends and colleagues, may I steal my husband away? I believe our honeymoon phase should start now!”

He raised his brows, he was amused, looking at her fondly. She was finally having fun. He gave the audience a chuckle when they cheered at her announcement. She really wasn’t asking, when his father nodded, she almost dragged him outside the venue, she was in a rush and he was all giddy. Saying he’s excited was a bit of an understatement because he’s finally seeing his best friend that was buried under all that dress and watchful eyes.

“The night is beautiful, like you.” He quipped with a grin. She unclipped her heels, he picked them up for her before she could think of carrying them herself. He heard her mutter a soft thank you.

“You’re so unbelievably corny that I love you, the dress was long enough that my shoes can’t be seen, I should’ve worn flat shoes instead.”

He doesn’t focus on her casual confession, he tried not to. They already steal kisses from each other, they’re already married. But those three words always seemed too far. “See? You should’ve followed Mother’s advice, you wouldn’t have red ankles.”

“Nonsense! You always do everything for me, let me do something for you. Let me make it up for you.”

“You can start by unwinding with me and drink.” He made a move to offer his ‘emergency’ flask in his coat pocket, he heard Amane squeal, as if she saw something truly adorable because she never makes such sounds.

He craned his head to look at where she was. The pond was just beautiful, reflecting the moonlight and the stars watching over them. Inviting themselves to a reception full of drunk adults. Guiding him to her. But he knew that wasn’t what Amane gushed over, he took a step closer to her and he gasped softly.

It was a little picnic set up by the roots of the biggest tree that was overlooking the pond. They were close enough from the venue but far enough that no one would see and hear them partake in any frisky activities. Should they ever do in this night.

'Pull yourself Kagaya, that’s just alcohol talking in you, the longest you two have indulged in was making out. She’s the type to take it slow.' Amane sat ever so gracefully in the mat, she leaned back to the trunk and sighed contently, patting the spot next to her. 'Does she like to take things slow on bed too?'

“A yen for your thoughts my husband?”

He blinked, lightly smacking his betraying red cheeks, he took the spot closest to her. He shouldn’t have such thoughts, though it is normal to have them, they were far from normal. He casually holds her hand, bringing it up to his face so she could caress him. She happily did so.

“Well, my wife, is this my gift? I must say, the highlight is that no one can see us.”

Her chuckle was music. “Exactly! No one can see me drinking and no one can see you sleeping like a log.”  She rummaged through the basket, pulling out two bottles of beverages. She shook them in front of his dazed eyes. “What do you think?”

'I meant us having s-'

“That would be lovely, but I’m nowhere near sleeping, I’m still awake for you.”

Amane rolled her eyes at him. Twisting the bottle caps open. “Aren’t you a charmer? How lucky I am, I guess I don’t need my online boyfriends.”

“Definitely, I think I am worth at least ten of them and I thought they were water?”

“Huh? Oh no I just needed a way to smuggle them past my mother. She watches me like a hawk when we’re in events, even in my own wedding.” She took a large gulp, he couldn’t distinguish whether it was gin, or vodka, or something else, her scent was invading him. “I don’t understand, why can’t she focus on my father? He wore that suit to impress her."

“Don’t be surprised if they suddenly announce you have a little sibling.” Amane smacked his arm with a wide smile before laying her head on his lap. The beverage still heavy in his hands but hers was almost empty.

“I don’t mind siblings at all, my brother is just a man child hassle. Thank goodness I have you, you’re such an angel you know? Always knowing when to shut up and not break anything.”

He blushed, finally drinking his. “I’m also glad I’m around, where would you be if I’m not around?”

“Oh pleaseee.” Amane groaned, he was loving how talkative she was today. “I would probably be marrying somebody else. Or worse, getting drunk with anybody but you, in some miserable bar that would go bankrupt soon.”

“That’s...awfully specific.”

“Then!” Sitting up to briefly empty her own bottle. She laid back down to gaze at him, at his beautiful eyes. “Where would you be if I’m not around?”

“I’d be looking for you.”

She was speechless. Was she? He didn’t know, only the tips of her ears were red, her mouth reeking of alcohol and her eyes were getting dazed. They were both silent, it was a comfortable silence that he was able to appreciate with Amane’s soft humming. Not even the party songs nor uninvited guests ever ruined this moment for them. Oh Kami he loved her and loves her till the end of time.

One bottle turned into two, then to four, then five. She had bad control over beverages, he should really bring her back to the reception. Had anyone started to get worried back there? Or are they enjoying their time at the venue? Did anyone even notice they were gone or were they busy drinking till they can’t think? Nonetheless, the chatty Amane was gone.

She sat up, she chugged down five of them, she doesn’t know what came over her to act so uncharacteristically. Kagaya must’ve been embarrassed. The polite and respectful woman he married is getting hammered in front of him. Though he’s not so bad himself. He’s holding himself up better than she could. He’d throw her stolen glances or horrible puns that somehow turned her on.

Above all. She found him extremely attractive. He was beautiful. A pretty boy, that was her type. She could dress him up as a woman and he’d probably be more gorgeous than he is. 'You’d like it more if he was underneath you.' Not exactly wrong.

“Hubby.”

“Yes Wifey?”

“Want to do something fun?”

Kagaya paused. “Pardon?”

“I said,” Amane adjusted her dress and sat on his lap, her legs on each side. She straddled him and he forgot how to breathe, his blushing turning hot red. “Want to do something fun with your wife of 12 hours?”

He willed his hands and confidently placing them by her waist. “Yes...yes! I’d want to. I’ve always wante—"

That was all he could remember when Amane claimed his lips. It was bliss.
