A Coffee For A Kiss

Amane particularly preferred travelling with her cat, Amaya, or perhaps try photography like her father pushed her toward. He wasn’t fond towards critters, he only let Amaya slide because she had the same name as her mother. Not only that, she’s fat. She tried getting her into diet and unfortunately failed.

It doesn’t help that she was her mother’s café mascot. It did wonders for the influx of customers when Amaya (cat) ended up online but not for her health. She was almost thankful when she moved out from her parents’ house for renovation. She lived further and it gave her demon spawn some exercise whenever they walked to work. It used to be a hassle dragging her out but their neighbour helped.

Walking also gave her an excuse to bump into the neighbor across the street. Amane isn’t the most sociable person unless she’s assisting her father at his preschool work, but her neighbour cracked her open like an egg. Not the best analogy but he got her giggling and smiling while cooking by the second week and that wasn’t a good sign.

“No Amaya, don’t even think about running to him, he told me he was sick last time.” The demon spawn stopped meowing loudly at her door and went somewhere else.

Another bad (good) sign was that Amaya absolutely loved him. Even more so than her and that cat’s audacity! She can’t believe the cat she rescued when it was a shivering kitten would rather sleep at his house than at the expensive cat bed she bought for her. Her neighbour would often knock at her door and she thought he was making a move until she sees that ball of fur in his arms.

Now that same cat was ignoring her because he was sick and that wasn’t her fault. It wasn’t her fault either that she chose not to bring her along when she dropped off soup at his house. She has competition over that man and it was that spawn of hell. At least Amaya got her exercise.

She wiped the counter clean, the new hire didn’t close the lid down properly and it spilled when he haphazardly placed it on the counter. He basically rapped apologies. Poor guy, it was his first day too. She just waved him off and go to back to check if he got burned when he tried to clean the spill with flimsy tissue. She’s very familiar with first day jitters.

The café bell rang and she donned her professional smile. Her eyes widened for a second when she saw who it was.

Kagaya recognized her immediately and waved, eager to see a familiar face. “Neighbor! And hello Amaya.” He gushed over the cat and sneaked her some cat food that she happily devoured. “I didn’t know you work here.”

“Mhm, I take over Saturday till Tuesday. It’s a family run business so don’t worry about me being overworked. You have a thing for that.”

He chuckled and it was the cue for Amaya to walk around the counter and beg for him to pick her up. It’d be adorable if not for the amount of fur she sheds just by walking. “Well I won’t take too much of your time, I’ll take regular coffee.” He happily indulged Amaya and carried her. She purred like a little engine.

She typed it down, letting her mouth ramble on. “Regular size, with milk and iced? You like it cold since you have warm hands. You’d carry ice cubes with your bare hands and laugh.”

He gave her a look, a soft one. “How do you know my favorite?”

Her typing slowed down, she can’t outright tell him that she often asked her mother what his orders usually are because that would seem weird and she is not about to lose their friendship. Perhaps she was making this a big deal. It was just an order, she could say she’s an attentive worker! Or she could make up a lie.

“It’s called being observant, you tend to talk about your life a lot- n-not that it’s a bad thing.” Her mouth talked before she could think again. “I like hearing more about you. You’re very sweet too, you know?” If her face was red, Kagaya wouldn’t say something about it and she was thankful.
