(Case's POV)
"We haven't heard from Ianite in weeks! Is she alright?" Braxton demanded, angrily slamming his fist on my desk.
"Look, I'm just as worried as you are, in fact I've been researching a ritual which may help us make contact." I replied calmly.
"When can we do it?" He asked.
"Soon." I replied
A little while later I left my study and strolled outside of our house. I walked for a very long time, pondering the ritual I was about to perform. Eventually, I realized that I had been walking for miles. I turned to start back, but I felt like I should stick around for awhile. I looked around and saw the ruins of an obsidian altar, concealed in a copse of trees.
I realized that this altar was perfect for the ritual. I raised my arm, pointing it at the altar, and started chanting. Runes appeared around me and spun as my magic repaired the derelict altar. I finished the spell and looked at the rebuilt altar. It consisted of obsidian spires that curved inward until they met above the center of the altar. Satisfied, I turned and ran back towards the house.
I burst through the door and Braxton yelped and dropped the chest he was moving on his foot.
"OUCH!" He yelled, grabbing his foot. He glared at me angrily. "Wha-" He started.
"The ritual." I said excitedly. I ran upstairs, ignoring the confused look on his face. I grabbed a bag of redstone, a flint and steel, the book containing the ritual, and a purple crystal that was imbued with Ianite's powers. I ran back downstairs, grabbed Braxton, and pulled him towards the altar.
We arrived at the altar at sunset. I immediately started spreading redstone dust around the pile of wood in the center of the altar. Once I had done this, I lit the wood on fire. I glanced at Braxton, who was watching me cautiously. I raised the book and started chanting.
"voco deus Ianite." Runes began floating around the altar and me. I continued chanting.
"Custos autem iustitia!" I raised the crystal above my head. As I reached the end of the incantation, I cast the stone into the fire, an offering to Ianite. I stopped chanting and collapsed. Braxton helped me back up, I looked over and saw understanding in his eyes. I leaned against him as the ritual continued.
Ghostly figures appeared, dancing around the edges of our vision. The obsidian glowed purple. Suddenly, the purple glow left the obsidian in a blast of energy, dispelling the ghostly apparitions and throwing us against a tree.
I struggled to my feet, using the tree for leverage. I heard Braxton gasp next to me. I looked up and saw Ianite standing where the fire had been, her waist length purple hair waving slightly in the breeze. She wore a tiara with a purple gem set into the center, mostly covered by her hair. Both her arms had golden cuffs attached to them. She was also wearing a purple robe that fell to her feet.
I smiled and knelt before Ianite, Braxton followed suit.
"Hello m'lady." I said, looking up.
She smiled and replied, "Hello Priest, Braxton."
Braxton greeted her, "Hail, m'lady. How are you?" Ianite looked off into the distance.
"Fine. I was weakened by the imbalance of your world being destroyed and became ill. However, your ritual restored much of my power. When I first came to Alagir, this realm, I was unable to manifest myself in a physical form because there was no good nor evil, and thus no balance."
"Now I have a form here," she continued, "It's.... Refreshing." Ianite finished, stretching her arms and yawning. "I must go for now, however there is one thing you must know. Braxton's parentage is unknown to you, correct?" We nodded. "I had children once. Twins, a boy and a girl. The girl's name was Sylvia. She and her father disappeared nearly a decade ago." Ianite trailed off, tears sparkling in her eyes.
"Who was the boy?" Braxton asked, his voice shriller than usual. Ianite wiped her eyes and smiled at Braxton. "Why, it was you, my Child."
"M-me?" Braxton gasped. Ianite nodded. Braxton staggered backwards and leaned against a tree, his face a mixture of shock and joy.
"Case." Ianite said. I tore my eyes away from my friend and looked at my goddess. "You are to be my champion. Your heart is pure and you desire to serve me. I have chosen you." Ianite announced. I bowed.
"Thank you m'lady, this is an honor." I answered. Ianite smiled.
"You two will do me proud. Farewell, my Champion and my Child." Ianite began turning translucent. When she was barely visible, her essence blew away in the wind......
