Fallen World

Chapter 1

Koda stared into the distance of fallen cities covered with cracks, moss, and dirt. Koda sighed. They stretched, digging their claws into the moss, as Koda did so they looked at their plump, fluffy paws and released their claws. Koda swiped my claws in a slashing motion and hissed, a feeling of stupidity swept over Koda. They sat down lowering their face. No one ever thought They were worthy of a fight. The others always thought Koda was too small and scrawny.''Why am I like this..." Koda mumbled to themselve "And here I am, talking to myself like an idiot." Koda said again. They swiped at some moss in rage, causing the moss to fling away. "Koda!" A voice yelled, They jerked their head around, it was Axel, he was one of the cats in my group, and he also had a higher kind of rank than the others "Hurry up and come here, your mother wants you." he said."Yes, Axel, I'm coming" Koda said back to him. They trotted over to him and they walked back side to side across the mossy rocks "what's going on?" Koda asked. "Can't tell you, just wait till we get home" Obviously, Something bad happened. They could just tell! "Axel, just tell me," Koda Yowled impatiently. He stopped and turned to Koda. "You are waiting 'till we get there, boy. I am not saying it again" he snarled. Koda listened to him out of fear, The Two carried on and reached the place our group stayed. They called it, 'The Van graveyard' because there were rusted, old, and abandoned vans that They stayed in. They put in multiple leaves and moss for nests and only the ones with high ranks can rest on the chairs because it was the softest and most comfortable. Koda's mother is one of the high ranks, so Koda is too. To earn a high rank, you must protect your group and fight boldly. The only reason Koda is a higher rank is that their mother is and she insisted that Koda must be one. Of course, Koda didn't earn my rank so most of the cats didn't like them because they thought it was unfair. Koda, too, thought it was unfair so They often slept on the moss beds like the rest. The two cats approached the van Koda's mother was in and she rushed out to us. "Koda, come with me, darling." She led Koda to the far part of the van graveyard, where no cats were, and sat them down. She looked Koda in the eyes. Those big blue ocean-like eyes she had. "It's your brother" A rush of fear consumed Koda's body. Koda's brother's name was Bruno. Their mother gave him a high rank as soon as he was born, although he earned his rank like the others. He was also one of the few cats that accepted Koda. He didn't care that They were small, nor scrawny. He was so kind-hearted to all cats and kits. "What happened to him?" Koda mumbled, "While patrolling, with the others, they encountered a coyote." Mother said "He fought with all of his strength. The others had time to escape but Bruno had lost his life protecting the others..."
Koda froze. It's not true, They couldn't believe it and WON'T believe it.
''It's not true, Koda mumbled, Gradually getting louder. ''Your lying.''
Koda's mother sighed.''I know it's hard to handle but-''
''IT'S NOT TRUE!!'' Koda yowled angrily. All the cats in the deserted area looked at Koda.

''I'm going to find him!''Koda yelled as they ran off in the direction of the forest. ''Koda!'' Their mother yelled after Koda. Axel sprinted towards Them but Koda didn't care. He jumped onto Koda, pinning them to the ground and holding their head down with his big fluffy paw.

''Let me go! He's out there and I know it!'' Koda scrambled about, but couldn't escape Axel's grasp. ''Just let it go Koda'' he said ''he's gone'' Koda twisted their body until they faced Axel's nose and they tried to swipe and clawed him. ''Argh!'' he yelped and stumbled back. Koda bolted towards the forest.''Just show him that he's gone, Axel'' Mother shouted. Axel sighed and ran after Koda. ''You know he's alive right?'' Koda said to Axel ''He's not. I saw his death.'' Axel replied. Koda was confused.''Why are you coming then?'' Koda asked

''To show you his CORPSE, ''Axel said. A shiver crossed Koda's spine. He never knew why, but the word 'corpse' always disturbed him.''Just leave,'' I said, stopping in my path.''Excuse me?''Axel replied.

''I can handle this on my OWN'' Koda snarled as they looked at the mossy ground.

''You are hardly 10 moons old'' Axel chuckled

''AND!? I GREW UP FASTER THAN THE OTHERS! I DIDN'T PLAY STUPID MOSS BALL, WRESTLE, OR HAVE FUN WITH MOTHER! I, AM, DIFFERENT.''Koda yowled angrily. Koda and Axel were left staring at each other. Koda was baring his teeth looking up at Axel. Axel looked down at Koda in shock. Axel started walking deeper into the forest.''Hurry up, I'm showing you your brother's corpse''Koda hesitated but gave in and followed Axel. A wave of guilt crossed Koda's body. They yelled at Axel, and Koda's ears went down.

An hour had passed, and Axel still had not found the corpse of Bruno. The moonlight shone down on the trees above Axel and Koda.''We better head back, it's getting dark''Axel said to Koda. A thrust of wind wept over koda and he would shiver.''C-can we go home?''Koda asked, Axel looked at Koda

''Sure kid.'' he would say. They both walked across mossy ground and rough dirt. They have been walking for a good hour by now,Koda was tired ''Are we lost?'' Koda asked Axel who looked anxious ''No,we are fine'' He said.Koda knew that they were lost, he was certain ''We're lost, Aren't we?''Koda asked. Axel had said nothing.''May we atleast stop to rest?'' Koda asked ''NO!'' Axel scowled, Koda stumbled back ''WE WOULDN'T BE LOST IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOU! YOUR A MISTAKE!!'' Koda breathed heavily and had his tail between his legs. 'YOU RAT!'' Tears formed in Kodas eyes, Axel bared his teeth at him. Koda was so shocked and tried to run away ''MOTHER!!'' he called as he tried to run but Axel stomped on his tail with his claws, causing him to fall. ''I hate you Koda, I really do, but I must protect you and keep you safe'' Axel growled.

''Let me go...'' Koda sobbed

''Are you going to stay with me? Not try to run like a COWARD? '' Axel scowled. Koda was about to reply but he heard the sound of sniffing ''Dogs'' Axel said.''Go hide in that log right there and don't come out till I say so'' Koda ran inside the log and crouched down.He peeked outside slightly and saw Axel, as still as a tree stump, with his head held high, Koda heard the noise of low growling... A dog leapt out of the bush trying to bite Axel as Axel yowled, hissed, and scratched, a second dog jumped into the battle and picked up Axel with its jaws, Axel bit its nose and scratched its snout, causing the dog to release him ''RUN NOW KODA!!'' He yelled. Koda didn't hesitate and ran, ran as fast as he ever had before. He snapped twigs, left paw prints in moss and never looked back. He heard the distant sound of hissing and barking, Koda saw an alleyway up ahead he scrambled in tripping on the way, landing on his paw, Koda sighed and slowly stood up.''I want mother...'' he mumbled to himself. Tears filled his eyes, Koda didn't want to cry, he wanted to be strong, but he couldn't help it. He fell to the ground, crying. He wanted to just lay there and wait for Axel to come find him and they can both finally go home to their home and go back to their mother.
