Evangeline
Daniel taps my shoulder. "Your brothers are back." I look up from my book to see Chris and Max jogging in our direction, holding a plastic bag. Where did that come from? "Lift up your arms," Chris instructs. He kneels and wraps something around my waist. I stiffen immediately and jerk back. "What?" Daniel tuts and reaches down to tie a knot. "There." It is a blue flannel. I am perplexed.
"Hey," Max holds out the bag to me."You're gonna need this." I take the bag from him and peek inside. Crap. My face heats up. Realisation dawns upon me. That explains their weird behaviour. And my random emotional outbursts. And, not to mention the wet, sticky sensation between my legs. I guess they just didn't know how to tell me.
The bathroom is next to the toy store. I emerge, heart still pounding. Chris and Max are waiting outside, their heads bent together in conversation. Daniel has disappeared. I assume he's gone home already. They both look up at the same time and smile like nothing happened.
"Are you in any pain? If you have cramps, I think there's Tylenol at home."
"We didn't wanna embarrass you," Chris looks apologetic. "We get it. It's totally normal." Max nods in agreement. Tears prick my eyes. Why am I crying? Sure, I'm super embarrassed, but it's not because of that. It's because I can't believe how sweet they are. I swallow lump in my throat.
Max pulls me into a hug. My tears soak into his shirt, but he doesn't seem to mind. From around his waist, I grab hold of Chris's fingers. His hands are soft and warm.
"Thank you." I whisper.
The last two chapters were kind of cringe, but oh well. At least it's over with! I seriously have no idea why I wrote about that though. Has anything like this ever happened to you?
