PRIMROSE UNIVERSITY

"Just let me get this straight!", Hob said, nervously fiddling with his fingers.

"You're interrupting my lecture about one of the greatest writers mankind has ever brought into existence to tell me what exactly? There better be a good explanation about that, my friend..."

Morpheus blushed, not paying attention to all those chattering students around him.

"Who's that guy? He looks kinda handsome..."

"He might be the Professors' boyfriend, isn't he?"

"I've never seen him around the campus before...but he seems strangely familiar to me!"

"To me too. Like I've seen him in my Dreams, but I can't exactly remember when nor why - "

Grabbing his friends' hand, Morpheus pushed the classroom door open, instantly craving for some privacy.

But that wasn't before he took out another few grains of sand, spilling them all over his secret admirers.

They all went to sleep within mere seconds, with their teacher staring in shock:

"What have you done to them? Explain or I'll never talk to you again - that is a promise!"

Morpheus couldn't help but smile to himself.

Hob Gadling hadn't changed at all and he couldn't really tell if it was for better or for worse.

"It may be better if I show you!", he replied, snapping his fingers.

"Sweet Dreams, Hob Gadling!"

THE KINGDOM OF DREAMS

With his eyes fluttering open, the Immortal found himself sitting in a comfy chair next to Morpheus - but he wasn't inside the classroom anymore.

This didn't even seem like the university at all.

"You may be wondering why you've come here, Hob Gadling!", the Dream Lords' voice echoed through his mind, pointing at a glass of wine on the table.

"But first, have a drink. As far as I can tell, you rather enjoyed drinking back in the old times - "

Hob slammed his fist on the table, so hard that the glass fell over, landing on the greyish marble floor.

"First, you tell me what's going on!", he hissed, suddenly starting to feel all dizzy.

"What is this place, why you've brought me here? Who the fuck are you? I mean, there must be something off about you..."

Morpheus shushed him by putting one finger to his lips, finally answering:

"This place is called The Dreaming. The very same place you visit every night in your Dreams, the very same place I rule. Cause I, Hob Gadling, I am the Sandman!"

Hob couldn't believe what his friend had just said, now being more confused than in shock.

He had always thought he could rely on him, that they could trust each other no matter what.

But that didn't seem to work well now, after all those years which had turned into whole decades and decades which had turned into an eternity.

Slowly passing by, time after time, day after day, night after night.

With no sign of his friend, not even a letter.

So, why did he decide to show up now?

Why now, after literally leaving him to carry it all by himself?

This mere burden called life?

Why now?

"You do realise that I'm not believing any of this!", Hob stuttered, tears swelling in his eyes.

"I really thought we could be more than just friends, you know. I thought we can trust each other and yet, you're talking nonsense from the start you see me again. After all we've been through together, after all we've lost...please tell me who you really are. Otherwise, I can't be sure if I ever want to meet again!"

Morpheus avoided his gaze, exhaling deeply:

"Follow me!"
