THE KINGDOM OF DREAMS

Lucienne hadn't really expected the ruler of Hell showing up in her library, that was for sure.

But there she was, wings folded behind her back and wearing a malicious grin on her face.

All that while flipping through an utterly ragged copy of It by Stephen King.

"Your Highness, what a lovely surprise!", the Royal Librarian said, respectfully bowing to Lucifer Morningstar.

"If you want to speak to Lord Morpheus, I am afraid he's not quite available at the moment..."

Putting the book aside, Lucifers head shot up in slight curiosity.

When she spoke, Lucienne felt a cold shiver running down her spine:

"Oh, it is perfectly fine. I don't need him anyway for what I have to discuss, I only need you. So, do you want to hear what I have to say?"

"Whatever it is, my Lord will be informed right away!", Lucienne replied, scanning the huge stack of horror novels the ruler of Hell obviously wanted to read.

"Currently, he has gone to the Waking World, in search for a long lost tool of his. I think he will not return before finding any clue of where it might be - "

"And this long lost tool may not be a magical violin, by any chance?", Morningstar interrupted the librarian, a sudden thought forming in her mind.

"Cause I know where that violin is...and your dear Morpheus would be very pleased to hear about this. But in order to tell him, I want something from him in return!"

Lucienne suspiciously raised a brow.

How much she hated the Devil for being so calm and stressful at the same time...it was giving her headache.

"And what might that be?", she answered, watching every movement of the Fallen like a hawk in front of its prey.

"As far as I know, Lord Morpheus does not make deals with the Realm of Hell...he would have told me about that!"

Lucifer sighed deeply:

"I would not call it a deal, more of a contract. In this contract, it says as followed - ", pulling a large roll of parchment out of her robes, the Devil started to read, "If Lord Morpheus, King of all Dreams and Nightmares, manages to return to Hell in the next 24 hours, the so called Violin of Creation will be given back to its rightful owner. In order to do so, Lucifer Morningstar will be challenging him to another round of The oldest Game, in which Morpheus has to perform as outstanding as the last time. If he fails, however, the Violin of Creation shall remain in Hell for all eternity and be destroyed by morning light. Signed by Lord Morpheus, the King of Dreams and Lucifer Morningstar, ruler of Hell. Any questions?"

Luciennes eyes seemed to pop out of her skull when she finally regained her speech, stumbling on the words.

"He would never have signed it, I would have known...besides, this doesn't even look like my Lords' handwriting - "

The Fallen chuckled, seeming to enjoy the helplessness which was written in the librarians' face:

"But still, he has agreed. And if one agrees, there will be no turning back. I am expecting him in 24 hours and he better be on time. Otherwise, I can get very angry. And by the way, I'm taking these with me!"

Clutching the books in her hand, Lucifer Morningstar vanished into a swirling storm of fire.

Leaving Lucienne with even more worries on her mind than she had imagined.
