Hazel eyes carefully scanned the first page of the smaragd-green book held in her fingers. The title written in small golden letters was covered by her hand as it clutched itself around the cover. Her other hand hold her wand which was slightly enlightening the pages for her to read.

'Magical Abilities – their origin and known cases'

How does a witch or wizard gain a specific magical ability? Is it passed down through families' blood or is it gained by a ritual? The wizardry society is aware of specific abilities roaming around in our world – but there are more: Abilities a witch or wizard would never think could exist until they meet an affected.

This book withholds carefully researched and collected information about all kinds of magical abilities discovered – and known witches and wizards holding said abilities.

Cassie frowned at the absence of a name, thank you notes to the people who helped gather the information or simply more words for an introduction. It was then that she realised she didn't look up the author yet. She closed the book only now loosening her tight grip around the cover. The title was staring back at her, enlightening her curiosity like burning fire inside her all over again - but the name of the author was missing. She turned the book around and opened the first few pages but failed to catch a name. She wasn't sure what she should think about the absence of the author's name – what would this book hold within for the author wanting to stay anonymous?

She shook her head and turned the pages back to the beginning, her eyes falling on the table of content.

'-Amortality

-Animagi

-Apparition

-Banshees-'

Cassie haltered. Mia Crestfield was a Banshee. With Mia's mother being one of the most known banshees in the wizarding world, it wasn't a secret that she inherited her mother's ability. During the time Noah and Mia dated Cassie had given in to her curiosity, gathered her courage and asked Mia about the special powers she hold. Cassie had only heard stories and legends before and she wanted to know what was true and what was only calculated manipulation of higher-ranked witches and wizards to suppress creatures and people with powers they just didn't know about nor understand.

After all, those books and reports the publicity of the wizarding world had access to told their readers about spirits predicting death and being a bad omen. Then there was Mia – a girl with a constant smile on her lips and a shoulder to cry on for everyone who needed it.

She ended up in a deep and long conversation with Mia and she told her about her parents' deaths and how her mother's abilities were passed down to her by a scream – so far the young woman's first and only scream.

Cassie gathered her thoughts and made a mental note to remember the pages about banshees but for now she needed to figure out her own powers, though, it only took her another word to halter again.

'Empaths'

She thought of Grace. A muggle-born witch, the first in her family to receive the gift of magic – and an empath. It was a mystery to the people who knew about her condition how she happened to have those powers. Grace stumbled over the term 'empath' in their fourth year. It was mentioned in a book she had read but no further explanation other than 'able to feel other people's emotions'. She had gathered up her courage and went to speak to Professor Sprout, the head of the Hufflepuff house. Sprout had listened to her and they went to see Albus Dumbledore together. It was the first and only time Grace has been in a personal conversation with their headmaster and she felt intimidated. But the man had an open ear to all of her concerns and fears and he had assured her, that some wizards and witches just happened to have this ability and that she had nothing to worry about. Grace had felt relieved and she finally gained the knowledge that she hadn't been crazy or imaginative all those years – she had an ability that she had to get used to.
