Physically, their bodies were still in the ice realm, but consciously, Shade and the twins found themselves surrounded by the literal personification of death. They had woken up in the realm of the dead and at this very moment, the latest cursed survivor in the middle of the undead swarm... had just died again.

In their mental state...shade and the twins had already moved on to their next after life.

The castle was still being overrun by a deadly swarm. When a new curse survivor awakens, he/she is immediately killed only for another one to awaken and be immediately killed as well. The undead  creatures were naturally drawn to the cursed survivor and for the past few hours...the cursed survivor had been caught in a trap.

When they appeared in the realm of the dead, Shade and the twins had all spawned in different locations. Unfortunately for Shade, he spawned closest to the castle and immediately inherited the fate of the cursed survivor, he began running for his life. Fortunately for the cursed survivor, this drew some of the undead away from the castle as they chased after him.

One of the twins- Jade, spawned somewhere between Shade and her twin June, who had spawned furthest away from the castle. Unfortunately for Jade, the path she decided to take would lead her straight to the oncoming traffic of the dead...the very dead that Shade was running away from. And although they would pass one another, Jade and Shade would never cross paths. Jade would end up coming face to face with the parade of death that shade was trying to escape.

she would not survive.

The other twin sister June, spent the longest time unaware of the reality of the realm that she was in. As far away from the castle as she was, June found herself alone. The only path she could take led to the castle, and so, that was the path that she took. After a period of mindless walking, June would bear witness to the tragedy that befell every cursed survivor, however, she would witness it happen to Shade as the parade he led caught up to him.

The time she had to wrap her head around what was going on was not enough, the dead were already at her feet. Soon, she could feel them all over her body, scratching and biting. However, the monsters never tore her apart...

She felt what she believed she would feel. As the undead creatures approached her, fear took over her senses and she went into shock but in reality, the undead never touched her. In fact, they avoided touching her body as they circled around her. Soon, they would all come to a halt, sense the smell of the cursed survivor's blood in the air, and begin running in the direction of the castle all-together.

June was still alive, and after the death of shade and her sister- Jade, she was all alone. She wandered the realm of the dead for a very long time on her own. Time moved differently here, so, it felt as though she had been walking forever. Every undead creature that she came across avoided her, and every one of them ended up running towards the castle.

Eventually June would close in on the castle. The closer she got, the more undead creatures she saw. Soon, she would witness the strangest of their behaviours. One moment, it was quiet, and all the creatures would wander around aimlessly. However, shortly after, they would all go into a frenzy and start running in one direction. June decided to follow them every time they began running. It took a while but eventually, she understood why they behaved in such a strange way.

The last wave of creatures she followed led her to the centre of the swarm. It was a large empty opening within the castle that was filled with the mindless creatures. When she arrived, the creature had just calmed down and begun wandering around aimlessly again. They were still avoiding her though.

...but we'll come back to that.

Within this empty opening at the centre of it all, June would witness the effects of the survivors curse in real time. She saw one of the undead creatures fall to its knees and vomit. After this, every creature around it would begin to go crazy. In a second, the new cursed survivor would be devoured by the creatures around it, the sight was horrific. June would witness the deaths of a few more survivors before she built up the courage to do something.

All it took to save the survivor...was contact. Since they had already been avoiding June, when she made contact with the survivor, the creatures began to avoid her too. Now, June and the new cursed survivor could escape the castle. Furthermore, with the effect Mariette had on the survivor's curse, escaping the realm may still be possible.

...let me explain.

...

In the beginning, Lusie was looking for creature of royal blood to pass  on the survivor's curse. This was because in the cosmos, royal bloods carry a certain type of magic in them. This magic allowed them to interact with other magical things in the cosmos...things like the port, or the cursed weapons of the alpha gods. So, even though Mariette died before she could access the port, as the cursed survivor and a royal blood, she did have an effect on the survivor's curse...since curses were also a type of magic.

As you would later come to learn, coming back to life as the survivor in the realm of the dead isn't the curse. The curse is something else completely. however, it was placed on being of royal blood. So, reverting an undead creature back to life...was the effect that the royal blood had on the curse.

likewise, because Mariette Moore was a being of royal blood and she had also passed through the curse of the survivor... another effect had taken place. Since she died within the swarm at the centre of the castle, Mariette had been waking up in the body of every new cursed survivor. There was no longer a diversity in the soul of the survivor...it was just Mariette; she alone became the sole survivor of the curse.

This meant that since the first time, Mariette had been dying and coming back to life in different bodies over and over again. With June however, that all seemed to be over. Unfortunately, shortly after escaping the castle, June's body in the ice realm had just been fed the water from the warm pool.

She had woken up back in the ice realm.

Once again, Mariette would be left all alone as the cursed survivor in the realm of the dead...and without June anymore, she was back at the top of the menu...

...and the bottom of the food chain.
