I wake up way too early, today is the day. I haven't slept that good, I really feel nervous seeing her and going on a date. I get up and look at my closet, what am I going to wear today? God, how can this be so hard. I try out different outfits, nothing really does it for me. Leah did say she will be wearing her travel clothes and she'd bring travel proof clothes, although I'm not really sure what that means. For tonight I think I'm set, I'm going to wear a black chino and lilac slim fit blouse. I have to wash my hair if I want to bring out my curls tonight. I get into the shower and make sure I am prepared for anything. My body feels smooth and soft. I can't stop smiling at the idea she will be here today. I'm going to change the sheets as well, there isn't a better feeling than sleeping under freshly washed sheets, if you ask me. I look around my room to see if there is anything left to do, all looks fine. I take a deep breath. Why is time moving so slowly? I haven't heard from Leah this morning, maybe she is still sleeping. I shouldn't worry too much. I'm eating my breakfast when my dad joins me.
"Good morning, what time is your friend landing?"
"Morning dad, around 2pm."
"Oh you got some time left. I will be working till late today so I hope to see her before I have to go."
"The plan is to come straight home, I guess she will leave her bag here before we go sightseeing."
"That makes sense." He says while he gives me a smile. My phone is ringing, thank god, it's a FaceTime from Leah, I hope everything is okay.
"Hello?" I say as I only see a black screen.
"Hang on. This fucking phone!" I hear Leah say.
The black screen turns into an image of Leah, looking at her phone with an angry face and as soon as she sees me her expression softens. "Hi there." She says with a smile on her face.
"Hi." I smile back. She moves her phone to the side and I see Viv driving the car. "HI Dani!" she shouts while keeping her eyes on the road. Leah turns the phone back to herself.
"As you can see we are on our way."
"Good." I'm not sure how to act since Viv is with her and hearing everything I'm saying.
"Sorry I didn't contact you earlier, it was a stressful morning." She apologizes.
"Before she blames me, she was the one that was late!" Viv shouts to the phone.
I start to laugh. Leah laughs too, giving me an innocent smile.
"That's okay, it's good to see you guys are on your way."
"Yeah. So, I'll text you later okay? Just wanted to let you know were still on for today." She gives me a wink.
"Ok, have a safe flight. See you later." I give a wink to the phone, which makes a smile appear on Leah's face. She waves and disconnects the call. I've never had such an chaotic FaceTime call before.
I really start to get nervous now I know it's really going to happen. I check my phone and see I have a text from Leah. She is the cutest. Look at her face, she looks so happy. My heart makes a little jump, I can't wait till she is here. I have to entertain myself for an hour now, I've got no idea what I should do, I'm pacing around in the house, moving things from one place to another. My dad is looking at me with a confused look on his face.
"You okay kiddo?"
"Yeah, just tidying."
"Aha, I see." He smiles at me. Shit. I'm being an idiot.
"Think I'll just go to the airport, maybe grab a coffee and look around for a bit."
"That's probably a good idea. See you when you get back."
"Ok dad, bye!" I walk to the front door.
"Dani?"
I stick my head out the doorway. "Yes?"
"Calm those nerves, it will all be fine."
My cheeks turn red. "Haha. Ok." I say as I walk away. Why am I this awkward?
I can hear my dad laughing as I close the front door. Here we go. I get in my car and drive to the airport. I park my car at short-parking and make my way through the airport. I get a coffee and take a seat at the benches. My legs are restless. How am I going to greet her? Viv is with her and all those people here, maybe they will recognize them. I can't give a hand, that will be real lame but can I give her a hug? Or would that be too much? Or a kiss on the cheek? My god, I don't know. We should have discussed this. I see on the screen that her plane has landed, they don't have checked in luggage so they will be coming through those slide doors soon. I take a deep breath as I watch the doors open and close a few times. The doors open again and there they are, or better said, there she is, because she is all I can see right now, she is more gorgeous then I remembered. Her eyes light up as she sees me and I give her my biggest smile. She walks up to me and gives me a hug.
"Hi, good to see you."
I hold her tight. "Good to see you too."
"I've missed you." She whispers in my ear.
We let go and Viv gives me a hug too.
"Long time since I've seen you." She says.
We chat for a bit before Viv leaves to get to her parents, they are waiting in the car.
Leah stares at me with a smile on her face. "God."
"God?"
"I'm just happy to see you again."
I give her a shy smile. "Let's go to the car."
We walk through the airport and find our way to the parking lot, we haven't said much.
"This is mine." I point to my car.
Leah opens her door and stands still, staring at me again with a smile on her face.
"I was almost afraid you would pick me up by bicycle."
"Are you serious?"
She starts to laugh at her own joke. "Sorry, I couldn't resist. You Dutchies and your bikes."
"I do use my bike a lot, I have to give you that."
Now she laughs even harder. "I knew it."
I laugh with her, I've missed her laugh.
"You know, I fell of my bike on holiday."
"Really?"
She explains to me what happened, how she was on holiday with Keira and Lucy and she fell down a hill, Lucy even had to fix her wheel because it was crooked.
"Maybe it's time you take some lessons from a professional."
"Only if that professional is you."
I feel my cheeks blush as she is staring at me again.
"Leah?"
"Yes?"
"You're staring."
"I know." She whispers. We arrive at my house. "You ready to meet my dad?"
"Does your dad know?"
"I haven't told him anything."
"Okay, let's go inside." She says full of confidence.
We walk to the front door, I can see she is scanning the area. I open the door and let her in.
My dad gets up from the couch and walks towards us.
"Hello Mr. Lewis, it's a pleasure to meet you." Leah says as she gives my dad a handshake.
"You can call me John, pleasure to meet you too Leah." My dad response.
"Okay John it is." Leah says with a smile on her face.
My dad gives me a look and quickly nods his head, as if he approved her.
We have some tea together and my dad is oversharing things from my childhood, making Leah giggle. "Dad come on, that's enough."
He laughs at me. "Ok, I have to go anyway, work awaits. You girls have fun today!"
"God. I'm sorry." I tell Leah.
"Sorry? That was amazing, your dad is really funny."
"I bet you found those childhood stories funny."
"Especially the one where you did a performance on your roof, for the whole neighbourhood to see, I didn't think you would do such things."
"I'm full of surprises."
"I bet you are." She says as she bites her lip. Fuck. That's so sexy. I can't look at her so I look away.
"You want to freshen up a bit?"
"Yes, and I'm curious where I have to sleep tonight."
I take her upstairs and show her the bathroom and bedroom.
I sit on my bed while Leah is standing in my room, looking around.
"It's so weird seeing you here, in my bedroom."
"I hope you mean that in a good way."
"OH yes of course!"
She gives me a smile. "Mind if I take a quick shower?"
"Not at all, make yourself at home. I'll get you a towel."
"Thanks babe."
"I'll take a shower after you're done."
"Hmhm. I think that's the best option, would be a waste of the two reservations I made for tonight."
"Ha. You and your dirty mind. Two? What have you planned?"
"Our date." She gives me a wink and disappears into the bathroom. We are both ready to go, I look at her from head to toe.
"You look truly amazing."
"Thank you, you look good yourself too, that blouse matches your eyes."
I give her a shy smile. "So, what's the plan?"
"The plan was for me to wear a dress but I didn't think my dress would survive the travel in my bag so I'm wearing this suit."
"You know that's not what I mean."
She nods and comes closer to me. She puts two fingers under my chin and lifts it. She looks me deep into my eyes before she gives me a soft kiss on my lips.
"The cab will be here any minute."
"Cab? Where are we going?"
She gives me a smile. "Let's go."
I walk with her and we take a seat in the cab.
Leah shows her phone to the cabdriver and he nods.
We sit in the back and Leah keeps looking at me with a smile.
We arrive at the Adam Tower in Amsterdam.
"So, I wanted to do something special because I think you are very special, I want us both to remember this date." She says as we get out the cab.
I look at her. She is so cute. She takes my hand and leads me inside. We take the elevator to the 20th floor.
"I made a reservation for 2 on the name Williamson." She says as we enter the front desk.
"Welcome, I'm your host for the evening. I will bring you to the rooftop and afterwards to your table in our panorama restaurant."
She looks at me and I can tell she is excited. We follow the nice host to the rooftop, there is a big swing. "This over the edge swing is the biggest in Europe, it's 100 meters above the city with the most beautiful view." The host says.
"Leah. I'm afraid of heights." I say with a little panic in my voice.
"I know. I'm here, I will hold your hand the entire time. This is something you have to see."
I take a deep breath.
"Trust me." She says as she holds my hand.
I nod and take a seat on the swing. She wasn't lying, this is incredible. Swinging over the edge, seeing the water with the boats, the city and all its lights, it's an amazing view. I squeeze her hand every time we swing forward.
"It feels like we are flying." I tell her.
"It does, with that funny feeling in your stomach."
"Exactly." I smile at her.
We get off. "Wow, this was incredible. Thank you for persuading me. I loved it."
"I'm glad you did. It sure is something I will never forget."
