Chapter Four. Together.

Suddenly I heard a banging on my passenger's side window. I jumped back and looked out the window, it was Mila. I calmed down and rolled down the window.

"Open the door." said Mila "You're not stopping me." I said "I know, I'm going with you, if you want to do this we are doing it together. Now open the door." she said. I unlocked the door and she got it. I didn't hesitate, I started the car and pulled out of the parking lot. "Where are we even going?" Mila said, "Once the killers stopped killing it means they are within walking distance of their safe house." I said, "And how far is walking distance?" Mila said "up to 5 miles," I said. "And you plan for us not to die is..?" said Mila "uh, haven't thought that far ahead yet." I said "I expected as much, now, how far away is where we're going?" she said, "about..ten minutes away if I'm driving 50 the whole time." I said as I ignored the speed limit.

"Fuck, my nuggets..." Mila said suddenly "they'll be there when we get back." I said, "If we get back." Mila corrected "What am I supposed to eat now?" she said. I threw her a lollipop I had in my car. Mila looked at it. "Eh, I can work with this," she said as she unwrapped it. "Good, I got it from the bank." I said, "oh, I love bank candy." She said as she put it in her mouth. "I wonder who died tonight.." Mila said starting to speak. "Hopefully no one we know..." "yeah..but the odds of that are low. We know like 12 people, both of us combined." I said.

"I think we're...here..." I said as I pulled up to the spot. There were many police cars and officers. "I didn't think they'd be here.." I said "well, we're already here. C'mon." she said as she got out of the car. I quickly followed her, and together we walked up to the crime scene. We couldn't see the body, since it had already been placed in a body bag. A tall middle-aged male police officer walked up to us.

"Well, what are two young ladies like yourself doing out at night? Didn't you get the alert?" Said the officer "Yes sir we did, we just,...uh...we wanted to check if it was one of our friends who got killed." I said trying to tell a believable lie. "Well, I'm sorry, ma'am I can't do that for you. You need to go home." He said "Wait a minute, but-" I said, Being abruptly cut off "Sorry for the inconvenience officer, we will go." Said Mila as she grabbed my arm and dragged me past the body "Hey, what the hell was that for?" Said in a confused tone, then I noticed she was dragging me the opposite way from where we came from. "Come on, we are getting past them, which way do you think the killer would have gone?" Mila said

I looked around and realized there were three ways the killer could have gone. Downtown, into a neighborhood, or into the woods. Realistically there was only one way the killer would go, into the woods of course. I pointed to the woods and looked at Mila. "You're kidding." She said flatly "They wouldn't have gone any other way Mila, come on." I said as I walked toward the woods, Mila began to follow behind me. "Well, what are we going to do if we find them?" Mila said, "um...take a picture." I said "Seriously? That's your master plan? What about the not getting stabbed in the woods part?" She said

"Well, I will figure it out. I was more focused on just getting here ok. Now they are 20 minutes ahead of us by now, most likely moving at a fast pace." I said trying to change the subject "Well how are we going to catch up to them then?" Said Mila "That's what we have to figure out. Any chance you got a map?" I said as I looked at Mila. We had just reached the edge of the woods and stopped before going in. Mila took out her phone to open google maps. "I don't have cell service, we are too far from the main parts of town." She said. I guess this was to be expected, we lived in a very country-filled area. "This isn't safe at all, are you sure you want to do this?" Mila said as she looked at me. "Yes, Mila, I have to do this." I said. Mila looked back towards the woods. "How do you even know the killer came this way, we could of went to-" Suddenly Mila stepped back, as a horrified expression came across her face. I quickly looked in the direction of the woods to see what had shocked her.

As I looked into the woods, I instantly saw what had horrified her.
