Any peace Allie had was gone when the alarm sounded.
She jumped up, slipping her shoes on, and she took off running. When she reached the control room, she stood behind Bernard's chair, her brows furrowed. "What's going on?"
"We have a plain heading straight towards us," Bernard said, his fingers working fast on the keys. "These guys aren't stopping. Take us to 'Elfcon 2'!"
"Let's go to 'Elfcon 2'."
Allie leaned forward, her blonde hair falling into Bernard's face. The elf's cheeks turned red, and he tried to shove it away, but it kept falling back. He huffed, but continued trying to work.
A few levers were pulled, and slowly, the North Pole began to rise. Before she knew it, her Dad was in the room as well, looking through the telescope. "Do you see anything, Dad?"
"Nothing yet." He drug out. "There it is. We've got a partridge in a pear tree. You take us to 'Elfcon 1'. Let's rig for silent running. Look alive, everybody!"
Allie turned back to the screen in front of her, missing the way Bernard's face was going a darker shade of red.
"Okay, we're in 'Elfcon 1'."
Bernard flipped switched, pulled levers, and turned knobs. Everything went silently so suddenly, it almost freaked Allie out. Above them, she could hear the planes passing. She held her breath, not moving an inch.
Though, Allie felt heat rush to her face when she heard Christmas music. Bernard clenched his jaw, and the two shared an irritated look, completely unaware at how close they really were.
"Find out where the music is coming from."
It took the elf a few seconds to find it and when he did, Scott, Allie, and Bernard were up in a flash, and they were storming as quietly as they could to where they knew the music was coming from. They stopped in the stables, and then the doors opened, and two pairs of elf legs were poking out of the sleigh.
Scott hurried forward, slapping his hand over Curtis's mouth, and clicked the Santa toy off. It was silent again, and Allie glanced at Bernard, who was death staring the sandy haired elf.
"We are at 'Elfcon 4'. All clear."
Allie let out a sigh of relief. Coco had jumped up, nearly falling on her face as she climbed out of the sleigh. Scott sighed, and asked, "Curtis, what do you say we get you a nice set of headphones this Christmas? It's all right, everybody. Let's get back to work."
"Curtis," Even Allie had to wince at Bernard's tone. She had heard it a lot in the past eight years, and Allie had begun to think it was reserved specifically for her. "you're 900 years old. Grow up!"
Curtis only scowled at him. Bernard then turned to Coco, the girl looking anywhere but him. "And what have I said about hanging around him?"
"We were just listening to Christmas music." The young elf mumbled.
